Department Description:
The Sync department represents both recorded music and music publishing rights and offers clients a comprehensive licensing service. They work to serve recording artists and songwriters by strategically developing new opportunities in film, TV, advertising, video games, and new media, and also by collaborating with the company's frontline recorded music labels.
High Level Job Description:
Under direct supervision with some latitude for independent judgment and decision, is responsible for fielding and managing master/publishing clearance requests for Warner Music Group recordings/compositions.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Primary duty consists of fielding and managing master/publishing clearance requests for Warner Music Group recordings/compositions.
• Negotiate fees and rights with various synch clients including high volume TV programs.
• Handle requests for miscellaneous projects and Film Festival licenses.
• Coordinate with creative team for pitches and quotes when appropriate.
• Research synch rights & licensing history for all artists/recordings/compositions as needed.
• Update and maintain rights database.
• Pull recording assets from various sources for clients (ASR, Master Tape Library, Synch library).
• Develop knowledge of market value for WMG controlled and represented recordings/artists/compositions.
• Address various payment issues for our labels, artists and clients.
• Administrative tasks related to day-to-day clearance, negotiating, and quoting.
• Assist in hiring and supervising interns.
• Manage special projects as needed.
• Guide coordinators in lower level clearances.
• Help cover for other dealmakers when they are out of the office.
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years in a support role for a music licensing department in which they gained hands-on clearance experience.
• Tactful and effective communication (written and verbal) when dealing with colleagues, clients, and other key personnel.
• Ability to assess and prioritize workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines.
• Proactive research skills; knowledge of various web resources.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivated, positive attitude.
• Proficient with various computer programs for Mac and PC (including but not limited to MS Office, iTunes, Spotify, Adobe, database applications).
• Adaptable to quickly changing situations and environments.
• Receptive to new technologies and active in social media.
Education/Experience Required:
•
Bachelor’s degree with a major in business or communications with coursework covering music business and/or related fields is preferred.
