Department Description: The Digital Media & E-Commerce team at Atlantic Records is responsible for all digital marketing and direct to consumer initiatives for all of the artists (urban, rock and pop) on the roster. They build online and mobile fan communities, with an eye towards evolving the way that fans listen to, participate in, and purchase music and related products. They create and market content through the Atlantic Artist.com Network, grassroots marketing, and develop new products for the artist superfans.
High Level Job Description: Responsible for daily management of the digital marketing team and genre-specific oversight of digital marketing strategy. Director also manages a roster of high-profile artists online, including content development and management, grassroots community building and marketing, the Atlantic “artist.com network,” tastemaker sites, and genre-related digital marketing lifestyle outlets. The Director of Digital Marketing is focused on the creation and building of Atlantic’s artist communities as they serve as the core of the direct-to-consumer initiatives and future product development, and guiding their direct reports in executing the digital strategy for the label.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Hire and manage a team of digital marketers, including daily oversight, training, and professional development.
• Guide the digital marketing team in all legal areas, including COPPA/FCC rules and regulations (age, privacy, copyright, etc), contesting, etc.
• Recommend new digital tools and partnerships for the label and its artists, including both platforms, insights, and marketing tools, as well as partnerships with upcoming sites/services.
• Guide the budgets of the genre-specific digital marketing budgets, advertising plans, etc to manage label spend and to ensure best practices across all projects.
• Work with artists, managers and key label executives in order to develop compelling and powerful online marketing strategies for artists on Atlantic and the label’s associated labels
• Construct community/fan-building initiatives. Examples of online involvement include: fan recruitment, media sampling/posting, online voting, viral "send to a friend" initiatives, banner campaigns, consumer surveys, contests, etc.
• Assist in brainstorming and implementing exciting new online content (exclusive audio and video content, contests, artist journals, photo galleries) for artist websites and online fan clubs
• Provide text and content ideas for websites, contests, mini-sites and media promotions to maximize artist visibility online
• Build and manage new and ongoing relationships with online partners and affiliates as they relate to grassroots marketing
• Create and execute online lifestyle marketing campaigns that brand artists, aggregate fans and mobilize fans to promote Atlantic's artists and music
• Work with Atlantic Publicity to Ccoordinate with hundreds of niche genre and lifestyle websites to maximize exposure for Atlantic's artists and music specific to each target market. Examples include music and video placement, artist features, artist pages on sites, news and tour info, album reviews, giveaways, banner ad and viral player placement, etc.
• Brainstorm, budget, and execute effective online ad campaigns for artists, creating a strong presence in the desired target market and community
• Work closely with artists and artist management to ensure requests and expectations are handled intelligently and carried out effectively
• Attend and contribute to all related company meetings in connection with assigned projects, and provide dept. head with timely feedback and follow-up regarding any action items
• Prepare bi-weekly online marketing summaries
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Experience in hiring, managing, and developing a small team.
• Broad knowledge of contemporary music scene and lifestyle

• Understanding of interactive technologies and communication tools including email marketing, SEO/SEM, bulletin boards, SMS messaging, "instant messaging" and viral marketing techniques

Special Requirements/Preferences:
• 5-7 years of internet marketing experience
• 5-7 years of music industry experience
• Experience writing and editing music copy

Education Required:
• BS or MS in Marketing, Communications, MIS/CIS, or similar
