Department Description: The legal department is located at the corporate headquarters of Warner Music Group (“WMG”). The legal department supports WMG and its operating companies in all corporate legal matters including employment, compliance, records management, litigation, mergers and acquisition, securities, digital and intellectual property.
High Level Job Description: The attorney position requires 4-6 years of experience practicing corporate transactional law, with at least a few years in a major law firm. The attorney will report to the SVP & Chief Employment and Corporate Infrastructure Counsel and work closely with the General Counsel. The attorney is responsible for negotiating and drafting complex employment agreements and incentive compensation plans for all of WMG’s contract employees and executives and advising WMG’s executive management issues and policies related to employment agreements. The attorney would also be involved with counseling the company’s HR department and business leaders on employment law issues, although prior employment law experience is not required.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Draft, negotiate and review complex employment agreements and separation agreements and other employment-related agreements for the employees and executives at WMG and all of WMG’s operating companies.
• Advise WMG’s executive management on issues and policies related to employee-related agreements.
• Manage and respond to inquiries from WMG business units related to WMG employee-related agreements.
• Draft, review and negotiate various corporate agreements including non-disclosure agreements, vendor agreements, license agreements and services agreements.
• Draft and review company’s human resources benefits policies and procedures.
• Manage and train junior lawyers on all aspects of contract drafting and negotiations
• Leading or assisting the team’s efforts in the preparation, implementation and refinement of forms, processes and procedures
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Strong negotiation skills and experience (in particular, the ability to independently lead and manage negotiations)
• Refined and well practiced drafting skills (in particular, the ability to develop creative solutions in areas with evolving legal guidance)
• Ability to manage the employment contract process including ensuring that the team meets all deadlines timely and accurately
• Ability to manage a variety of responsibilities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Motivated self-starter, team player, dedicated professional
• Familiarity with the recorded music and music publishing industries, as well as related legal issues and recent developments is a plus
Education Required/Preferred:
• JD required; NY state bar admission preferred
