Department Description:
The Marketing department is the chief holder of information on the status of an individual project (single, album or EP) scheduled to be released into the marketplace. Primary focus lies in discovering effective advertising avenues, market research, dissemination of useful information to fellow staff members and partner labels.
High Level Job Description:
Reports to Director of Marketing & Artist Relations, Dance
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Breakdown of role: 50% marketing/product management, 50% digital/interactive marketing.
• Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of marketing initiatives and campaigns for assigned artists (with emphasis on developing artists & sharing projects w/ Director of Marketing & Artist Relations, Dance); Also includes creating digital, interactive and social strategies.
• Liaise with Promotion, Sales, Publicity, Art, Video and Interactive departments to assure that marketing strategies and artist objectives are met.
• Review the financial profitability of projects and, along with Director of Marketing & Artist Relations, Dance to determine the effectiveness of all marketing campaigns.
• Integrate e-commerce and monetization into campaigns.
• Quantify success and efficiency of digital promotions, paid media campaigns, e-commerce efforts, social engagement and partnerships via various analytics tools
• Responsible for developing and gaining approval on budgets for assigned projects. Accountable for all marketing expenditures as they relate to the bottom line profitability of a project.
• Liaise with artist management regularly to procure marketing approvals and exploit viable opportunities.
• Work closely with A&R from early stages of product to maintain consistency and vision of project.
• Revise and approve all release sheet information, product sticker copy, press releases, final product art film, and all marketing elements and tools to maintain project integrity.
• Constantly search for and review new revenue streams and opportunities.
• Lead the creation and utilization on all artist websites and social networks with updates, posts news, content, etc. Will also be involved in the development of artist websites, including wireframing, user experience design, and feature requisition.
• Contribute to the design and creation of artist digital assets, including photo and video content
• Responsible for analyzing musical and stylistic trends in the dance community
• Represent WBR in the dance community, attend conferences, shows etc. as WBR ambassador to dance (such as Ultra, WMC, EDC)
• Discover new sites and outlets to promote WBR artists and maintain relationships with key sites and partners (both in and out of the dance space).
• Maintain relationships with blogs and tastemakers in the dance community (such as Dancing Astronaut, Gotta Dance Dirty, This song is sick, Xlr8r)
• Heavy research of artist communities and word-of-mouth analysis (Reading and analyzing message boards, blogs, other artist sites, etc.).
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Minimum of 3 years general experience to grasp a full understanding of all day-to-day operations. Label/ management/ marketing/ digital marketing experience required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ambitious individual sought who is a self-starter requiring minimal direction.
• Must thrive in a team environment, but be able to take initiative and work independently.
• Outstanding attention to detail and follow-through.
• Exceptional organizational skills, with a strong ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Must be proficient with using Excel, Powerpoint or Keynote and be comfortable with collaboration and asset management tools like Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, Basecamp and the like.
• Must have strong computer knowledge of various music applications and excellent knowledge of the Internet
• Social strategy and paid media planning experience strongly preferred.
• Travel may be required
