Job Title: Director, Technology & Anti-piracy
A little bit about our team:
The Warner Music Group Business Development team is responsible for the company's global strategic initiatives in mobile, digital sales, technology assessment, electronic music distribution and new music formats. The team evaluates and implements business models for the digital entertainment marketplace and devises strategies which help to sustain WMG's growth in this segment.
Why this could be your next big break:
You will get to be a part of a dynamic team to provide strategic analysis and formulate recommendations on technology issues and ''translate'' those details into business terms related to new business development priorities, negotiations and deals. You will be key in coordinating internal and external anti-piracy efforts to decrease lost sales and increase on-line revenue.
Here you'll get to:
• Assess implementation details of new services and determine how they fit with WMG goals
• Draft and evaluate terms and conditions on technology issues including authorized uses of WMG music, content identification & filtering, overall security, and risks of infringements to maximize value of WMG content in new business models and deals both domestically and internationally
• Assess and mentor startup companies participating in Tech Stars Music, via WMG's membership in this unique program.
• Provide technology requirements, help negotiate terms, and manage implementation with partners on technology-centric deals including the WMG API project and High-Resolution Audio initiatives
• Formulate recommendations and reach consensus on these projects and technology policies and present to WMG Executive team for decisions
• Research & monitor market trends in technology and content distribution including threats from infringing applications, such as Bit Torrent enhancements, stream-ripping, and service/user anonymizing techniques
• Represent WMG on industry anti-piracy groups and provide input on development and budget priorities for anti-piracy initiatives, takedowns of infringing content, Google search demotion and graduated response programs and other policy measures to convert infringers to customers
• Evaluate new anti-piracy methods and technology providers for potential adoption by the industry groups
• Identify potentially problematic sites and services and analyze their operations and recommend enforcement priorities for potential company and industry litigation
• Help other partners and content licensors to understand the rationale behind WMG's technical requirements
Rockstar candidates will:
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of the business challenges facing the music industry presented by technology and the ability to parse complex technology issues and translate them into actionable business and legal concepts
• Have the proven ability to work with executive management and to build strong working relationships, to achieve consensus, and to negotiate successfully with strategic partners and colleagues throughout the organization both domestically and worldwide
• Be a self-starter with experience leading a team as well as playing solo
• Possess strong analytical ability and superior oral and written communications skills
It would be music to our ears if you also had:
• Previous experience in the digital technology field, and on-line/mobile music or
digital content industry required (At least 8 years).
• Highly desirable to be familiar with emerging digital business models and specific
technologies relevant to WMG's current and future businesses including user authentication, music recommendations, social media, content identification and filtering, watermarking & fingerprinting, e-commerce, SEO, and security
• Experience in managing the implementation of complex technology projects with key
partners.
• A graduate degree or equivalent experience in engineering or computer science is
required. Specific knowledge and experience in new media and technologies related to on-line and mobile content distribution in general and music in particular.
