Department Description:
The Finance Department at Latin America (Latam) Regional Office is responsible for overseeing all of the financial operations of Latam (including US Latin) regions in partnership with the finance groups within the individual region. The department’s primary functions include financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, strategic initiatives, financial analysis, Senior Management presentations, and financial and control compliance.
High Level Job Description:
The Controller is responsible for supporting the financial reporting of the Latam regions operations, including monthly actual results, monthly forecasts, annual budget and strategic plans, as well as cash forecasting. This position will have direct interaction with the regions CFOs and support their financial reporting requirements. In addition, this position will be responsible for improving the regions internal control environment and monitoring compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Partner with and support the Latam regions finance team with their financial reporting requirements including monthly actual results, monthly forecasts, and annual budget including submissions, deliverables and review meetings.
• Participate in the forecast, budget and strategic planning meetings and manage resulting deliverables and action items.
• Participate in Regional presentations for Budget and Forecasts to Senior Management.
• Perform a review of monthly and quarterly actual results (P&L and BS) and discuss with business unit CFO’s and finance teams to understand variances from expectations (forecast/budget) and summarize results and provide to Senior Management.
• Participate in Financial Review Meetings with Corporate and resolve outstanding items if any.
• Review bi-weekly cash forecast submissions from regions and provides variance analysis versus prior week submission to Senior Management.
• Coordinate cost containment program, analyze and consolidate submissions and track actuals against budget and forecast.
• Review internal control processes and controls and identify opportunities for improving the control environment.
• Identify key controls (manual and system based) around the various processes and monitors control performance.
• Ensure compliance with financial controls including review of Balance Sheet Reconciliations on a regular basis and ensuring that all balances are supported by systems reports and/or third party documentation.
• Provides overall leadership and support to regions CFOs in implementing best practices and training them when required.
• Support strategic initiatives for process improvement across the Region including centralization of functions in shared services. Monitors project status and deliverables on an ongoing basis.
• Work closely with Regional IT department to review IT system enhancements and creation of new system reports according to current business needs.
• Assist in performing due diligences for potential acquisitions or strategic alliances.
• Assist in reviewing findings from industry compliance audits and resolving any outstanding items to conclude the audits.
• Prepare ad hoc analyses to Senior Management.
Required Competencies/Skills:
• Minimum of 5-10 years of professional experience, preferably with some mixture of experience within public accounting and a large global company.
• Proficient knowledge of GAAP, SEC and related financial reporting regulations and standards.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to work under pressure and cultivate and develop key relationships.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to present financial information effectively and in a creative manner.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and delegate as needed.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are required along with the ability to influence others and interface with external contacts, internal management, and staff.
• Proven organizational efficiencies and business process re-engineering skills.
• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish. Portuguese a plus.
Special Requirements/Preferences:
• Public accounting experience required (minimum 5 years)
• Prior direct interaction with senior level executives a plus
• Music or other media/entertainment industry experience a plus
• Experience with GFS and HFM a plus
• Willingness to travel ~ 30%
• Experience in finance in Latin American territories
• Excellent Excel skills required.
Education Required:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
• CPA certification is preferred
