Department Description:
The Business & Legal Affairs department's foremost responsibility is negotiating and drafting the contracts that are made between company and artist. Additionally, the department is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the protection of the company's intellectual property rights.
The attorneys and supporting staff of the department are responsible for drafting and amending contracts which may include: artist recording agreements and corresponding so-called ''360'' deals, licensing agreements, distribution and profit participation agreements, side-artist agreements, video agreements, and other licensing agreements.
The department takes direction directly from the CEO and Chairman of the company, works in concert with the A&R department in connection with new artist signings, and is supported by the A&R Administration department.
Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
Assist three attorneys in the Business and Legal Affairs department.
Answer phones and coordinate conference calls for Business Affairs staff.
Coordinate travel and maintain calendars.
Draft business correspondence and email, mail, and track drafts/ agreements.
Type and revise recording agreements and other legal documents.
Mail checks with supporting correspondence documenting payments.
Work with VISA/immigration representatives on behalf of our artists, draft petition letters (from templates), track VISA approval notices, etc.
Handle approved promotional and other content clearances as directed by attorney staff.
Maintain and update artist files.
Help maintain Business Affairs file room and filing system, as well as prepare files for off-site storage.
Generate expense reports.
Research record sales (ie SoundScan)
Obtain certificates of insurance and coordinate with vendors, event managers, etc.
Researching documentation for special projects (audits, lawsuits, etc.)
Other tasks as requested.
Required Competencies/Skills:
Minimum of 1 year office experience with an interest in the business of Music.
Excellent typing and proof reading, strong organization skills, proactive with good follow through, excellent phone and interpersonal skills, detail oriented, strong work ethic, ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
Ability to multi-task and learn quickly.
Microsoft Word for Windows, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and various internal systems.
Education Required/Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree.
