The Apprentice Program
Join us for an opportunity to experience the art of animation and be a part of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The Talent Development Apprentice Program is an immersive experience available for recent college graduates (within three years of graduation) for a 3, 6, or 12 month paid position. Under the guidance of a Disney Mentor, the Talent Development Apprentice Program offers a unique opportunity to hone and understand skills, refine and strengthen key disciplines, and engage in a real-time production environment.

The Apprentice Program is based in our Burbank, California studio and begins October 2017. The first three months of the Apprentice Program start out as a Disney Animation trainee. The deadline for applications is September 10, 2017 11:59 PM PST.
The VisDev Trainee
Visual Development trainees visually explore the diverse elements of a film's story including character design, set design, costume design, color schemes, lighting concepts, and inspiring visualization of key story moments.
In addition, an ability to execute specific character turnaround poses as well as detailed illustrations needed to expedite modeling and texturing.
We're looking for artists with rich imaginations who are adept at visual communication. They should be skilled in the areas of color, design, anatomy, perspective and composition.

Ideally, an apprentice will engender fresh, unexpected viewpoints and new ways to look at our work and our workplace. We offer a creatively challenging sandbox ready for those who know how much they need to learn but also suspect they have a few new tricks of their own to teach us.

Portfolios/demonstrated skills should include:
• Character designs in a range of styles and archetypes, all with specific and clear personality and appeal
• Paintings and environment designs that demonstrate stylistic range, with a strong sense of composition, color sense, narrative clarity, (preferably with character/environment interactions) and appeal
• Exposure to the art of animation through an independent or collaborative film project(s) helpful
• Life drawings, caricatures, and observational sketches
• Portfolios do not need to include both character and environmental art but can be tailored to the applicant's strengths
• Student film projects; QuickTime movie files (.mov) preferred if submitting student film as supplemental material
• Uploaded multipage PDF version of portfolio preferred
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Job Responsibilities:
• Design characters and/or environments based on the director's vision
• Execute specific character turnaround poses as well as detailed illustrations to expedite collaboration with other disciplines later in the production process
• Fully engage in all training activities and classes
• Collaborate with and address notes from a Mentor/Supervising Artist in completion of all assignments
• Proactively engage and collaborate with Art Department
• Attend and contribute to all Art Department Meetings
• Be inspired, know your research, and inspire through art
