The ARL houses a collection of more than 60,000,000 pieces of original artwork, which includes, but is not limited to, conceptual art, storyboards, maquettes, hand drawn production art, 3D models, textures, image files and final rendered images.
Over a million pieces of artwork have been scanned and ingested into a proprietary web application and more are being added daily. Based on our experiences so far, there are a number of projects that we would like to implement to improve our workflow, the user experience and the performance of the application.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with great people skills and a proven ability to deliver intuitive and efficient web applications. The successful candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision producing sustainable, documented code with appropriate unit tests and must provide transparency regarding the rationale, processes and techniques used.
The main viewer application is developed as a Python web client that queries a MS SQL server. The response is either returned in XML, Text or JSON and is then parsed and returned as a web page. Python and shell scripts execute in the background to manage the data and ingest workflows. Some similar applications are Google Images, Picasa or Flickr.
Previous experience and proficiency in the following technologies and techniques is required:
• 3 years of full stack web development experience
• Expert level knowledge of SQL / MSSQL server, PyCGI & CGI scripting, Javascript/AJAX, XML / JSON, CSS, HTML, XSLT
• Knowledge of database schemas, triggers, and replication schedules.
• Strong UNIX/Linux experience
• Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, especially working with multidisciplinary teams and with management
Preferred Additional skills:
Education
or background in photography or art
Experience with Adobe Photoshop
Knowledge of Disney animation history and an understanding of the animation process
This is a PAR (Project Assessment Requisition) position associated with a twelve month web application project. Applicants need to be aware that employment will cease at the end of the project.
