POSITION SUMMARY
The Director will oversee all broadcast operational requirements for Network Programming and will act as a liaison between Production, Engineering and IT. This position leads the operations used to gather and distribute content and channels and provides leadership in maintaining, developing and improving these systems. This position will both continuously provide strategic guidance to deliver solutions to meet production needs as well as translate business strategies into high performing competencies within Broadcast Operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage, Track and organize all facility and remote resources to support ''Live'' productions
• Direct management of 24-7 multi-network channel release
• Support live event requirements (live feeds and delayed feeds, etc.). Ensure all requirements are captured and coordinated properly for air.
• Interface directly with Broadcast Engineering, Production, Editorial and IT to ensure all needs and resources are available and operational
• Create, update, and implement all operational & disaster procedure manuals
• Recruit, hire and train new employees, manage and develop operations and production staff.
• Provide critical communication between department heads, operating personnel, news teams, and engineering to ensure systematic and fluid workflows. Advise the appropriate personnel of any changes and/or discrepancies to daily production and/or technical infrastructure
• Maintain monthly broadcast calendar, schedules, weekly call sheets and daily exceptions (sick call etc.), including vacation scheduling, special events, cross-coverage and cross training
• Train, Track and monitor operational personnel performance reviews
• Establish, maintain and grow excellent working relationships with key internal stakeholders
• Drive performance improvements through the use of quality measurement and reporting mechanisms
• Ensure all 3rd party digital content is quality controlled and closed captioned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree with 5-10 years of experience managing /supervising large broadcast operations and network operations center environment. Must have a deep understanding of broadcast production workflows.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS:
• Knowledge of Live production environments and workflows
• Familiarity with traditional terrestrial and satellite broadcast distribution technology
• Working knowledge of Scheduall, Wide Orbit, ENPS preferred
• Strong understanding of network operations, remote productions and digital delivery workflows
• Outstanding verbal/written communication, presentation, organizational and teamwork skills
• Experience interfacing with programming groups as well as 3rd party content providers
• Experience working with budges and financial plans
MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES:
• Experience with financial planning, budget management and cost out activities
• Ability to collaborate effectively and manage relationships with key internal and external clients
• Ability to operate effectively across diverse cultural and business environments
• Adept at building and maintaining a strong network of contacts throughout the industry
• First-rate written and oral communication; and the ability to build strong relationships quickly
• Ability to demonstrate strong negotiating skills and a track record of sound business decisions and good judgment calls
• Superior organizational skills and ability to manage complicated and conflicting agendas in ambiguous situations, and adapts behavior in response to feedback and experience
