Intern, Celebration of Teaching and Learning
The Department: The Children’s and Educational Media (CEM) department at WNET has earned a national and local reputation as a leading developer and producer of high quality television, including children’s animation, live-action specials and documentaries. CEM is also a pioneering provider of content that reaches audiences across the country online, and on emerging platforms. Our mission is to whisk away viewers on learning journeys through engaging stories with fun-loving, relatable characters and rich educational content. Our productions have won many honors, including Emmys, Tellys, Cine Golden Eagle awards, and US International Video and Film Festival awards. Programs are distributed through Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) or American Public Television (APT) for national broadcast.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Responsibilities: The intern(s) will perform a variety of web and television production related administrative duties including conducting research for new shows in development, reviewing animation designs, transcribing, proofreading, assisting on field shoots, assisting with the management of social media platforms, uploading and downloading content onto websites, making copies, faxing, scanning, creating electronic files and placing and picking up dub orders. Additionally, the intern(s) will attend departmental staff meetings, gain exposure to animation reels from potential collaborators, have access to production materials including scripts, character designs, web prototypes, rough cuts, treatments, etc. On a daily basis we expect reliability, punctuality and the ability to prioritize.
Skills: Preferably a college junior or above. Candidates must demonstrate responsibility and enthusiasm for learning about children’s media. Good research/writing skills, well-organized and tech savvy a plus.
Opportunity Profile: Ideally, the CEM intern(s) will gain an overview of the operation of developing educational television and content for the web and emerging platforms–through delivery. The intern(s) will contribute to the success of CEM projects by assisting when needed.
Hours: Approximately 16-24 hours per week. Fall/Winter Term: September to December.
