WHNT, a Tribune Broadcasting station, has an opening for an Assistant News Director to work in our Huntsville location.
The Assistant News Director is a senior management position that will have direct, daily oversight of the WHNT News 19 newsroom (broadcast and digital).
Primary Responsibilities
• Manage and coordinate all aspects of newsroom operation with direct responsibility to staff scheduling, special projects and special events
• Oversight of pre-planning for daily news coverage, news specials and special assignments and work closely with broadcast and digital executive producers and content manager to ensure aggressive, competitive and compelling newscasts
• Assist with development and execution of overall editorial and promotional strategy to achieve ratings and digital goals
• Drive editorial content development and quality control for the multiple platforms of WHNT News 19; consider yourself the Chief Product Officer for WHNT News 19
• Management responsibilities include hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations
• Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or equivalent required
• 5-7 years' experience in a news leadership position required
• Supervisory experience required
• Superior writing skills, news judgment and ethical decision-making required
• Capable of managing a sizable staff while making decisions under pressure
• Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment where results are expected
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
