Overview:
The Windows Systems Administrator is responsible for providing building, managing, and supporting the Microsoft infrastructure, including Active Directory, Exchange, MSSQL, SharePoint, in our physical and virtual environments. In addition, supporting internal applications and support of the backup and restore of critical business systems.
Major Activities to ensure achievement of key results and deliverables:
• Diagnoses, analyzes and troubleshoots applications, performance issues in a production environment
• Manages Windows Active Directory security groups, accounts, structure, and group policies
• Initiates vendor contact to resolve issues
• Manages VMware resources including setup and teardown to support business and development goals
• Proactively manages VMware SAN environment, including capacity, availability, quotas, and snapshots to ensure optimization
• Develops and automates routine tasks via scripting/coding and automation tools
• Installs and maintains server operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance
• Manages enterprise backup/restore of critical business systems
• Provides 24/7 support of systems and applications in local and remote offices
• Assist and mentor the Service Desk and junior staff
Additional Responsibilities:
• Assist with design, implementation, and management of our IT systems, while providing simple but effective scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Travel as needed between office locations
• Produces support documentation
• Logs calls and takes appropriate action to ensure a satisfactory response with acceptable time frames for the user community
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in a windows environment is varying degrees of responsibility
• Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2007/2010
• Demonstrated ability in diagnosing and remedying critical server-related problems and failures promptly and effectively
• Demonstrated knowledge of server configurations, RAID, SAN, server clustering, networking protocols, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, VPN
technologies, firewalls and security certificates
• Virtualization technologies and migration paths
Key Results and Deliverables (What does success look like):
• Prompt time to diagnosis of performance and service impacting events
• Structure and manages user and computer accounts according to company security policies
• Windows servers are built and managed according to Microsoft best practices
• Support documentation is complete, concise and placed into the central repository
• Ensures the virtual infrastructure is current and resource contention among VMs is kept to a minimum
• Server performance issues are addressed and remediated prior to becoming problematic
