Purpose of this job:
Under the direction of the Director, Information Security the Security Engineer is responsible for the monitoring, deployment, and support of the security infrastructure and other security solutions within the enterprise. This individual will support multiple security related projects and technologies, interfacing with others within the IT organization as well as other internal business units and external customers/partners. The Security Engineer must, at a minimum, have basic to intermediate level of knowledge and technical hands-on experience in multiple disciplines (security, Windows, Linux, and network) to support a variety of operational responsibilities and the overall solutions for a complex heterogeneous environment and help support a variety of operational responsibilities. The Security Engineer will ensure confidentiality, availability and integrity of the electronic information infrastructure in support of the security mission.
Major Activities to ensure achievement of key results and deliverables:
• Monitors, analyzes and evaluates operations and activities to ensure an appropriate level of information protection is achieved and maintained
• Builds, maintains, manages and monitors the security infrastructure
• Performs day to day administration of security related systems and applications, monitoring logs and reporting of security events
• Develops, enhances and executes security operations processes
• Proactively manages, tunes, and troubleshoots security logging, web filtering, anti-malware, vulnerability management, and other security systems
• Provides security expertise on directory services such as Active Directory and LDAP as well as operating system environments.
• Performs vulnerability assessments and assists IT operations with remediation planning
• Assists IT operations with remediation planning and implementations
• Develops intrusion protection and monitoring capabilities
• Contributes to systems incident response and event handling
• Develops, communicates and trains others on security standards and procedures
• Develops and maintains concise documentation related to responsibilities
• Researches and recommends new security technology capabilities and their applicability within the greater organization
• Assists in the planning and coordination of security related projects Compiles and reports on security system status and security metrics
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
• 4-6 years of relevant work experience with similar tasks/responsibilities
• Bachelor's degree required. B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline preferred
• SANS/GIAC/CISSP certifications preferred
• Solid understanding of security concepts, principles and practices
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities and the ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
• Knowledge of best practices in developing security standards and processes
• Knowledge of network systems and security protocols
• Knowledge of security software programs and implementation
• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems architecture, security controls, hardening, testing and monitoring tools preferred
• Experience with anti-virus software, firewalls, vulnerability management, and intrusion detection systems
• Experience with log management/SIEM reporting tools (Splunk a plus)
• Experience with forensics and incident response preferred
• Basic understanding of encryption
• Good customer service skills
• Solid team player with a ''can do'' attitude
• Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Strong conceptual and analytical skills
• Passionate about Information/IT security

• Understands and manages risk
• Capable of maintaining utmost confidentiality
• Able to quickly identify potential security events and resolve or escalate in a timely manner
• Ability to see the overall security needs of the organization

• Rigorous organization and follow-through approach
• Have excellent communication skills - written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal
