TITLE:
Licensing Assistant/Coordinator, MTV Music & Media Licensing - Freelance
SUMMARY OF JOB:
Function as show closer on special assignments. Take over projects at the please issue stage and wrap up all drafting, licensing and payment processing. Negotiate favorable rates and secure rights for material (music, footage, photos and other media) included in MTV east coast programming. Work closely and communicate regularly with production, production management, business and legal affairs and Music & Media Licensing staff. Record and track rights information for multiplatform programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work together with lead clearance person on show closer projects. Take over projects at the licensing stage. Completely wrap up drafting, licensing, and payment processing for assigned projects.
Negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners of music, film, TV, online content, books, photos, magazines, video games, record label content, artist management, etc.
Facilitate clearance requests by researching copyright ownership, preparing written requests to copyright owners and researching rights to pre-existing VMN material.
Draft, review and revise agreements to match negotiated terms.
Ensure that licenses are requested, executed and paid in a timely manner. Follow up with vendors on outstanding licenses and supporting documentation.
Regularly report clearance costs to Production and Production Management via tracking reports and over the phone/via email. Suggest cost- and time-saving options and alternatives.
Maintain contract files for all assigned projects and track relevant rights and restriction information.
Build and foster good working relationships with client groups, within the licensing community and throughout the Business and Legal Affairs department.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 1-2 years experience in television/music/entertainment in a business affairs, rights & clearances or licensing capacity.
Bachelor's degree and interest in pop culture and music across multiple genres is preferred.
