Overview and Responsibilities
The Marketing Strategy team at Viacom seeks a visionary Managing Editor who is motivated by the unique opportunity to scale our new publishing platform, V by Viacom, and oversee broader, editorial content to support Viacom’s centralized marketing team. The role includes content development, as well as content distribution, and leading the strategic deployment of content (including a website launch, e-newsletters, and social media channels).
Candidates should not only be passionate about telling compelling stories but also be able to effectively oversee a stable of writers/contributors, drive audience development and craft content in support of strategic marketing narratives.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Articulate and implement a compelling vision for V by Viacom’s editorial strategy and voice.
• Drive daily and long-term editorial priorities in support of this vision.
• Develop and manage a robust editorial and email content calendar in support of content marketing goals.
• Recruit, manage and cultivate a strong network of editors, writers and influencers.
• Develop, write and edit content to support marketing communications initiatives.
• Be the gatekeeper / custodian for all editorial deliverables, reviewing and editing content, as needed.
• Collaborate with brand and functional team stakeholders from across the company
• Supervise distribution of content across owned and paid media.
• Oversee project timelines, budgets, materials production, etc.
• Use a data-driven approach to inform content creation, and resource allocation to scale our efforts
Basic Qualifications
• 8-10 yrs. in journalism/publishing/media, spanning both editorial leadership and writing!
• A proven history of walking the right line between editorial and promotional
Additional Qualifications
• Strong executional abilities, with ability to manage projects that span content creation and deployment
• Strong time management, project management and budget management skills
• Extensive knowledge of the media landscape, both traditional and emerging
• Experience using social media and publishing platforms,
• Demonstrated ability to leverage analytics to inform content creation
• Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and presentation skills
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize and multi-task
