Full Time Job
Reporting to the SVP Data Platform, the Senior Director, Product Management - Data Platform will conceive, evangelize, and execute on initiatives that use ontologies, machine learning, and graph databases to address business opportunities within Viacom’s content lifecycle and technical operations. He/she will have a grounding in product management best practices, experience with taxonomies/ontologies, and an understanding of how natural language processing, visual recognition, anomaly detection, and knowledge graph systems can be used to supercharge a 21st century, global media company.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with executives from Viacom brands, Data Strategy, Audience Science, Advanced Advertising, Distribution, and Content Platform to shape the vision for a new platform that will carve out more value for customers (end users, advertisers, distribution partners) and create significant operational efficiencies internally.
• Take the vision and break it down into pieces that can be delivered incrementally to show near-term value and establish a feedback loop that hones the vision.
• Tie vision and execution back to ROI, ensuring that all parties are clear about the total cost of ownership and value to Viacom.
• Understand when to use humans vs. technology (and vice versa) to achieve goals.
• Own the product roadmap, collaborating with stakeholders and technical partners on prioritization and delivery.
• Partner with engineering leads in build-vs.-buy conversations to ensure that technology choices meet business needs.
• Ensure that we stay lean in our development, not over-building, but yet anticipating (and setting the stage for) longer-term needs.
• Evangelize platform-level machine learning opportunities - via long-form document, short-form presentations, and ad-hoc conversations.
• Be able to quantify those opportunities in terms of revenue potential or cost savings (product/market fit).
• Maintain subject matter expertise, keeping tabs on media business applications of emerging technologies in the machine learning space.
• Manage at least one direct report.
Job Skills:
• “Invent and Simplify” mentality that focuses on the shortest path to progress, but with enough of an understanding of the long-term implications that whatever is done can eventually be scaled, or at least revisited in an ROI-positive fashion once it has been proven out.
• Familiarity with graph database technologies, semantic web, and various machine learning algorithm vendors/libraries.
• Understanding of how enhanced metadata can inform the processes for content acquisition, distribution, programming, advertising, and secondary distribution.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to evolve a message based on intended audience and medium.
• Deep working knowledge of product management best practices, and how to modify them to meet evolving needs.
Basic Qualifications
• 8 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in product management
• 1 years working with data scientists
• Previous software development experience is a plus
Additional Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• MBA a plus
