This role will lead the distribution Strategy function at Viacom Media Networks.
Reporting to the EVP of Distribution and Business Development, the SVP, Distribution Strategy will be responsible for leading the strategy function for the distribution of Viacom’s television networks. The SVP will play a key leadership role in setting a strategic path for the evolution of Viacom’s distribution business, spearhead new growth initiatives, collaborate with the Distribution Partnership team to drive multiplatform deal negotiations and execution, and work across Viacom Media Networks on key distribution initiatives for all types of distributors and business models (e.g., linear, SVOD, AVOD, EST, digital, etc.).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Assume leadership for Distribution Strategy function
• Identify, develop and articulate key short and long term strategic goals and priorities for the distribution of VMN channels/brands and content
• Develop framework for understanding and evaluating Distribution developments, as well as tactical plan for achieving Viacom goals
• Be the leading internal resource for understanding distribution landscape developments (e.g., market dynamics, competitive analysis, implications of OTT, skinny bundles, new ad models, evolving video consumption, etc.)
• Lead evaluation of potential new business models, packages, products, and other key strategic initiatives
2) Partner with other areas within Distribution on various initiatives
• Collaborate with Partnership and Deal Finance teams to develop renewal plans
• Play a key role in negotatiating new media components of distribution
• Provide content offering and business model guidance on new distributor deals
3) Partner with other VMN departments and channels
• Lead internal cross-functional/departmental Distribution Working Group (ie, develop agenda, track projects, etc.)
• Represent Distribution in channel leadership meetings or other senior internal meetings, forums and projects that need Distribution involvement
• Work with Corporate Development to evaluate new business, M&A or other Viacom-level initiatives
• Collaborate with channels to gather input on key initiatives (e.g., TV Everywhere, SVOD, OTT, etc.) and oversee fulfillment of various contractual commitments (e.g., content delivery)
• Liase with Ad Sales in regards to all advertising strategy
4) Point person for internal strategic communications and presentations
• Partner with Finance to develop overall narrative, strategic story, and objectives for Distribution budget presentation
• Review submissions and assess Distribution financial growth and performanceLead development of other presentations as required by management (e.g., Board presentations, earnings prep materials, etc.)
5) Manage a team and be a leader within Distribution and Business Development
• Oversee a team of six professionals
• Key partner for Head of Distribution and Business Development
• Be a vocal and visible leader within the department, the company, and the industry
Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS degree
• 12 years of experience working in the media, entertainment and/or technology industries
Additional Qualifications
• MBA preferred
• Preferably multi-year experience in management consulting, investment banking, venture capital or private equity
• Outstanding project/process management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Outstanding interpersonal capabilities and ability to interface with all levels of an organization and navigate various dynamics
• Ability to persuade senior executive management, build consensus and work in a team
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; highly effective presenter (e.g., adept at C-level presentations/communications)
• Excellent ability to organize, synthesize, and present information
• Expertise in presentation development
• Ability to be a self-starter and resourceful, with a strong desire to learn
