Overview and Responsibilities
This position helps develop file-based workflows within VMN Production Technologies supported facilities. Daily work obligations include: research, planning, design, documentation, implementation, troubleshooting, and training for Viacom Media Networks, Content Supply Chain Services. This position reports directly to the Director of Content Supply Chain Services.
Major Responsibilities:
• Interface with clients to determine file-based workflow requirements, optimize current workflows, and suggest new content supply chain technologies.
• Assists with the planning, design, and acquisition of hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and media formats and recommends modifications as necessary.
• Maintain transcoding & automated QC platforms, to ensure quality, performance and reliability.
• Enhance automated video, audio and caption analysis workflows for file validation.
• Identifies, documents, and resolves potential technical support issues utilizing the appropriate resources within the company. Escalate issues with transcoding or QC software to vendor support or engineering team.
• Works directly with all necessary MTS teams to accurately determine storage and networking requirements for Production Technologies’ projects.
• Collaborates directly with the Production Applications department to integrate or enhance API controlled transcoding or automated QC services into workflow engine.
• Maintain proper departmental documentation and asset information that is easily accessible to management and other team members.
Basic Qualifications
• Professional industry experience with 4 years of direct business involvement.
• Must have solid understanding of the entire video content supply chain and a familiarity of production and transmission hardware and software systems. Knowledge of client and server operating systems, networking, and corporate information systems infrastructure is essential.
• Understanding of SMPTE or ITU standards and how they define broadcast video and audio.
• Expert level understanding video compression utilizing AVC (H.264), HEVC (H.265) or VP9.
• Ability to use tools to analyze audio and build automated workflows to support CALM or EBU R128 audio correction.
• Knowledge of container formats such as MXF, MP4, MOV, Transport Stream and other advanced file standards such as HLS or IMF.
• Comprehension on standards conversion techniques and the ability to develop optimal conversion techniques using automated processes.
• Technical experience with closed captioning and subtitling technology used with file based media.
• Experience with operating in Linux and Windows Server environments and installing and maintaining transcoding or automated QC software.
• Self-motivated and able to perform directed tasks under minimal supervision.
Additional Qualifications
• Bachelors degree preferred, relevant fieldwork required. Technical certifications pertaining to position highly recommended.
• Expertise with FFMPEG command line usage, filtering & codec parameters.
• Direct involvement in the design and operation of enterprise transcoding and automated quality assurance solutions such as Vantage, Elemental, Rhozet Carbon, FFMPEG, FFprobe or Baton.
• Experience building workflows using Transcoding & QC platforms with Aspera Orchestrator or other workflow automation system.
