Viacom’s Data Strategy group is an innovative and forward-thinking team of Data Strategists, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers that provides data-driven innovation across all of Viacom’s businesses.
The SVP of Data Strategy is a visionary leader and experienced data expert with a background in media & entertainment and strong knowledge of data science, analytics & insights.
The SVP of Data Strategy will be responsible for driving the vision that will enable Viacom to better understand our audiences across multiple platforms, through cultivating comprehensive data stores and developing advanced data science & analytics approaches in order to create actionable insights for the business. They are responsible for improving data analysis and results with Viacom’s business units.
The SVP will develop partnerships with a number of internal stakeholders and will ensure coordination and collaboration; they will be a subject matter expert (SME) on all of Viacom’s data and how we leverage it in our decision making through cutting-edge data science. This role will report to the Chief Data Officer at Viacom.
Responsibilities
Leadership
• Thought Leader and experienced practitioner who can develop and evaluate strategies to leverage Viacom data
• Data Evangelist advising executives and leaders to help implement data strategies across all businesses, brands and teams
• Building data science programs for a variety of platforms and creating actionable data driven plans
• Overseeing the strategy, evaluation and enhancement of internal & external data or tools driving discipline and processes
• Interpreting analytical results for senior management to assist in their decision making
• Recruiting, developing, and managing (performance reviews, distributing projects) a high performing team of both individual contributors and managers, up to and including VP level reports
Strategy
• Strategizing & collaborating with key stakeholders to continue building emerging business lines through innovative data driven thinking
• Formalizing our strategic planning processes – both annual and on going exercises
• Developing strategies that enables wins with key marketing or advertising partners through the use of sophisticated analytics
• Owning projects from end to end – leading and assisting business case creation including market analysis, competitive dynamics, value proposition, strategic fit, and economic models
Expertise on Viacom’s Data
• Understanding of what data is available, sourcing data to fill capability gaps, and developing an action plan on how it will drive business decisions
• Expert on emerging or existing data strategies to enhance Viacom’s business, including supplemental data sources to augment our data resources
• Use data to provide new and innovative insights to client groups to help foster a culture of data driven decision making
• Recognize our TV, movie, and digital data at a deep level and what that means for making decisions on content moving forward (TV viewers, moviegoers, digital users)
• Perceptive of internal client’s KPI & metrics in order to respond with appropriate problem-solving
Analytics & Insights
• Turning raw information into new insights, recommendations, dashboards, and reports that will support business decisions to help us grow, monetize Viacom data, and improve performance
• Analyzing and using insights to help business lines and functional experts develop and critique strategies for scaling
• Leveraging data, technology, and process to support the growth of Viacom
• Good knowledge of key data providers and related ecosystem – syndicated data providers (TV, Digital, Mobile, Film, shopping, etc.), DMPs, data matching services, and data targeting
Execution
• Spearheading the development and/or use of data science tools and technology to enable data to be freely interpreted including dashboards or presentations for executives’ use
• Building Proof of Concepts for data strategies and architecture
• Setting objectives for data gathering and analytical approaches
• Keeping key stakeholders up to date on project status
• Having exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with an ability to extract and translate meaningful information
• The ability to have excellent project management skills; managing multi-stream projects, tracking status, budget, and resources for executive leadership team.
Basic Qualifications
• 12 years of relevant experience in top technology and/or media companies with at least several years leading innovative data science projects dealing with data from a large number of source
Additional Qualifications
• Master’s or PhD degree preferred
• Significant experience in management consulting
• Experience identifying management needs to set data strategy
• Deep understanding of advanced statistical methods, including data science principals and tools
• Understanding of revenue models in the media industry
• Ability to influence fellow leaders and evangelize the use of data organization-wide
• Deep understanding of the technical aspects of current Data Analytics platforms
