Viacom’s Data Strategy group is an innovative and forward thinking team of Data Strategists, Data Science, & Data Engineers that provides data driven innovation across all of Viacom’s businesses.
Viacom is looking for a SVP, Data Science who will develop our company-wide data strategy and further define our analytics capabilities, data assets, processing, licensing, and data mining. Viacom is aggressively building our Big Data and Predictive Analytics capabilities in order to augment our world class data strategy and deliver digital services to our customers. This position will create value for the organization and ultimately support key business initiatives driving revenue growth and efficiency.
The SVP, Data Science is a visionary leader and has a background in statistical methodologies, data driven predictive analytics, machine & deep learning strategies, and validating models. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong knowledge on evolving a company’s big data platform and tools from data collection, data processing, exploration, visualization and insights. Further, the SVP, Data Science will apply the latest data analysis and machine learning technologies to innovate applications in both BI analysis and business scenarios such as, target audience recommendation, and content recommendations.

The SVP, Data Science will develop partnerships with a number of internal stakeholders and will ensure coordination and collaboration; they will be a subject matter expert (SME) on all of Viacom’s data and how we leverage it in our decision making. This role will report to the Chief Data Officer at Viacom.
Responsibilities:
Expertise on Viacom’s Data
• Understanding of what data is available and developing an action plan on how this will drive business decisions
• Be the expert on emerging or existing Data Science to enhance Viacom’s business
• Use data to provide new and innovative insights to client groups to help foster a culture of data driven decision making
• Understanding our TV, Movie, and Digital data at a deep level and what that means for making decisions on content moving forward (TV Viewers, Movie goers, Digital Users)
• Understand internal client’s KPI & metrics in order to respond with appropriate problem solving to guide teams
Leadership
• Thought Leader and Practice Development on evaluating Predictive Models, Statistical Methods, and Machine Learning strategies to leverage Viacom’s data
• Advise and communicate to executives and leaders on deeply technical concepts across all businesses, brands and teams
• Oversees the evaluation and enhancement of internal data tools and processes.
• Mentor a team of Data Scientist and Data Engineers and set the technical direction of the Data Science team
• Recruit, develop, and manage (performance reviews, distributing projects) a high performing team of both individual contributors and managers, up to an including VP level reports
Execution
• Build a data and computational infrastructure that can handle real time analytics, perform machine learning, and batch large scale data for our users including data pipelines, training enviornments and decreasing production runtime
• Build fault tolerant distributed marching learning workflows
• Evaluate and select external data vendors to meet internal needs
• Sets objectives for data gathering and analytical approaches
• Interpret analytical results for senior management to assist in their decision making
• Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with an ability to extract and translate meaningful information
Strategy
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to continue building emerging business lines
• Formalize our strategic planning processes, both annual and ongoing exercises
• Own projects from end to end - lead and assist business case creation including: market analysis, competitive dynamics, value proposition, strategic fit, and statistical models
Analytics & Insights
• Turn raw information into new insights, recommendations, dashboards, and reports that will support business decisions to help us grow and improve performance
• Analyze and use insights to help business lines and functional experts develop and critique strategies for scaling
• Leverage data, technology, and process to support the growth of Viacom
Basic Qualifications
• 12 years of relevant experience in top technology and/or media company with at least several years leading innovative projects dealing with applications of data science and advanced data analysis
Additional Qualifications
• Team player; experience working across multiple internal teams and functions and bringing together as a team
• Experience developing strategies that have enabled wins with key marketing or advertising partners
• Master’s or Phd degree preferred
• Deep understanding of the technical aspects of current Data Analytics platforms (related to Digital and/ or TV).
• Good knowledge of key data providers and related ecosystem – syndicated data providers (TV, Digital, Mobile, shopping, etc.), DMPs, data matching services, data targeting vendors (TV, Digital, Mobile), etc.
• Deep understanding of advanced statistical methods, including data science principals and tools
• Experience with scientific methodologies, high performance computing, data architecture, data engineering, software development, and modeling
• Understanding of revenue models in the media industry
