Ad Sales: Generates a significant amount of revenue for the company by selling air time. This department helps drive brand value, manages channel priorities, meets distribution opportunities, and considers cross channel goals.
Business Development & Strategy: Identifies growth opportunities and new businesses for Viacom that a network may consider for future expansion; provides analysis and support for strategic initiatives and operational issues across Viacom.
Business and Legal Affairs (to apply to this area, see our legal application): Handles business and legal affairs matters across various Viacom networks. Areas include, but are not limited to: digital business, employment law, music rights, series development, etc.
Communications: Serves as the media center for each network and acts as the liaison between the press and a network. Responsible for working with media, announcing news to the press, creating press releases and media alerts, securing publicity for original programming and assisting with press events.
Consumer Products: Extends programming trademarks to create licensing and other products, including book publishing, home video, and audio tapes, apparel, and children's toys.
Content Distribution: Responsible for negotiating distribution deals with new and existing cable operators, digital, and wireless distributors to help bring Viacom programming to consumers' televisions, computers, and mobile devices.
Creative Development (to apply to this area, see our creative development & programming application): Oversees the creation of digital and linear projects from initial pitch to premiere. This could include scripted, unscripted series, specials, docs, as well as short form stunts. These teams work with writers, producers and showrunners to brainstorm and create content that utilizes new storytelling formats.
Design (to apply to this area, see our design application): Viacom design internships are strictly digital. This includes web/digital, UX/UI and product. UX/UI teams start with early design ideation through final execution of design deliverables and prototypes. Digital focuses on web development, from image prep to constructing of web pages.
Digital Media: Responsible for the digital presence of our shows. Helps build web, mobile, and social experiences that will promote our shows, build buzz around new season launches, and engage fans in the digital space.
Editorial: Responsible for all online content and programming; including blogs, articles, reviews, interviews, video descriptions and social media. This includes fact checking, transcribing, brainstorming and digital stunts.
Events: Handles small and large non-televised events, like parties, dinners, conferences and trade shows. They manage all event logistics: venue selection, menu, security, staffing, sponsor integration, design, audio visual/tech, transportation, talent logistics, etc.
Finance: Supports the company's overall financial goals through the following areas: Accounts Payable & Receivable, Compliance, Financial Planning, General Accounting, Production Accounting, SOX, Tax and Treasury.
Human Resources: Strategic business partners that support employees through a variety of functions. Areas include, but are not limited to: recruitment and staffing, campus to career, compensation, events and programs, learning and development, benefits and HR systems administration.
Licensing: Negotiate costs and secure rights for music and other media used in programming. They research and review copyright ownership information, draft and prepare music licensing contracts for execution and analyze programming rights information for internal and external clients.
Marketing: Communicates the value of each network to viewers and the cable community in general. There are various areas within Marketing that contribute to the overall impact of the networks' message. These areas include: Affiliate/Partner Marketing, Consumer Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Integrated Marketing.
Programming (to apply to this area, see our creative development & programming application): Oversees day-to-day scheduling of content on our networks; this includes short and long term planning of linear and multi-platform events, stunts and/or marathons. Aside from linear, the team plans and schedules content on all platforms where our content can be found: apps, online, Video-On-Demand.
Public Affairs: Provides meaningful, pro-social initiatives, using the reach and power of each channel to create awareness and motivate action for current issues affecting society. They create compelling content that will be shared by influencers and work on projects that will help with philanthropic initiatives.
Research: Uses focus groups, surveys and other tools to provide qualitative and quantitative support in order to develop an understanding of each network's target audience. Areas of research include, but are not limited to, programming research, ratings, digital research and consumer insights.
Standards and Practices: Responsible for overseeing all content for all original programming that airs, ensuring it meets the standards of each channel. We are also responsible for screening music videos weekly and meeting with the music and talent department to approve music videos that air on our channel.
