Overview and Responsibilities
This role is responsible for leading a globally diverse team of systems engineers that will have oversight of Viacom’s Public Cloud strategy and implementation. This individual will need to provide thought leadership to emerging public cloud trends, how it applies to Viacom’s application deployments and work collaboratively with the infrastructure architecture team and various brand application teams to implement a cohesive global cloud strategy. This role will also be responsible to work with our Core Compute team on a strategy and implementation for a hybrid cloud solution between Public Cloud and Viacom’s data centers. Finally, this role will need to maintain oversight of all projects the team is working on ensuring they remain on budget and on time, communicating any risks effectively. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Cloud and Compute Services.
Responsibilities
• Create Compute as a Service offering strategies and transform them into actionable plans for implementation so that they are easy to consume, elastic, secure and reliable.
• Design and implementation of agile innovative infrastructure solutions that take advantage of technology advances that allow cost reduction, standardization and commoditization.
• Develops departmental specifications, policies, procedures and standards to guide the management of
• Public cloud usage and ensures they are followed.
• Drive the adoption of standard toolsets and application containerization to reduce complexity and support Operational goals for increasing automation across the enterprise
• Collaborate with brand application teams to ensure public cloud services are relevant and evolving to meet their needs.
• Collaborate with brand application teams to develop robust continuous integration and delivery pipelines
• Participates actively in the planning of IT Infrastructure strategy to meet the business goals of the company as a member of the IT Infrastructure senior management team.
• Participates in budget planning for the Cloud Engineering team and is accountable for managing to established budgets including reallocating funding as priorities shift.
• Acts as a technical project manager by preparing project plans, interacting with other departments and guiding IT resources.
• Interacts closely with management across departments.
• Develops evaluation parameters for technological enhancements. Reviews and recommends technology to IT Infrastructure management and participates in the systems planning process..
• Acts as senior level escalation to analyze and resolve problems associated with application performance issues
• Proposes new technologies, new technical and architectural strategies, and new processes to meet business challenges, in full consideration of their costs and benefits. Provides insights and new ways of looking at the business and technology that contribute to the strategic plans and directions of Viacom.
• Develops architectural standards and roadmaps to migrate to standards that will add significant value to the business. Promotes the architectural vision to MTS colleagues, explaining the ultimate value to be achieved, and resolving conflicts between standardization and innovation.
• Works with the business to understand major strategies and new developments in the business, and translates them into goals and objectives for the infrastructure organization.
• Proactively mentors and trains subordinates to continually improve services and support to Viacom Cloud Computing customers
• Maintains an understanding of business plans and strategies of competitors and of industry in general.
• Responsible for all team performance related activities including preparing and delivering performance reviews
Basic Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Mathematics from an accredited college or university is required
• 7 years experience leading geographically diverse infrastructure build and support teams
• 7 years experience administering LAMP based architectures
• 5 years experience managing Cloud hosted systems
• Experience with container based application deployments
• Experience managing environments leveraging continuous integration and continuous deployment
• Experience managing infrastructure systems to deliver digital media
• Experience in forging positive work relationships and leveraging resources to accomplish project goals
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and implement them to accomplish project or business objectives
• Demonstrated ability to think critically about a problem and visualize various scenarios for an outcome, communicating any risks to management
• Demonstrate a self-starter attitude. Can be assigned a generic goal and will work independently to come up with their own path to reach fulfillment of that goal without being told which specific tasks to perform.
• Must have experience in managing solution lifecycles (design, POC, deploy, operate, migrate)
• Must have a basic understanding of networking and distributed computing environments.
• Must have a basic understanding of service oriented architecture.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be capable of writing proposals or
• basic project plans, acting as a vendor liaison, and making presentations to customers, client
• audiences or professional peers.
Additional Qualifications
• Must be capable of working closely with IT management.
• Must be resourceful and have great troubleshooting skills
• Must be good at multitasking
• Networking experience, including LAN, WAN and SAN is a plus.
• Experience in working with onshore/offshore environment is a plus.
