The Audience Strategy Insight & Innovation group touches all of the hottest topics in the TV research industry today… big data, data visualization, predictive content/show analytics, total cross-platform consumption and forecasting, and most importantly, translation of data into new products, tools, and insights.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Data Visualization Engineer with a passion for storytelling, out-of-the-box thinking, problem solving, as well as experience in big data, compelling visualizations, and web-platform architecture. The Data Visualization Engineer will work with a tight product team consisting of TV experts who will define the business cases and data scientists who will model the data for continuous insights and solutions. The primary role of the Engineer will be to work closely with our product and data teams to build out a web-based platform, and create front-end visualizations that bring our data/analytics to life, and to tell stories for the front-end user that support our entertainment brands (across Comedy Central, MTV, Spike, BET, VH1).
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with our Data Science and Product Architect teams of Audience Strategy Insights & Innovation to understand all products from their vision, concept, objectives, data requirements, and back-end analytics
• Collaborate across teams to build joint products and brainstorm solutions for product integration
• Implement design efforts to build actionable data- driven products
• Develop front end web based products using data visualization libraries and tools
• Translate data insights to create stories with infographics and visualizations from prototype to final products
Basic Qualifications
• Experience developing scalable responsive data-driven web platforms in a team-oriented production environment
• Proven record of building out front-end user experiences, interactive visualizations, and single-page applications with data to tell a story
• Fluency in Javascript, HTML5, CSS, Git/Github
• Proficiency with web application frameworks (Django, Shiny, Angular, and etc.)
• Experience with front-end libraries (D3.js, React, Google Charts, cssplot, Bootstrap)
• Familiar with analyzing data using Python Stack (numpy, pandas, sklearn) or R
• Strong design sense
Additional Qualifications
• BA/BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Media Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Math or other quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Experience in working with and passionate about: data science, big data, survey data, social data, cloud environments, data platform architecture, BI, data visualization, data automation
• Understand all types of data sets (e.g., metered measurement data, other syndicated data, survey data, social data)
• Creative thought leader and problem solver
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to be able to work successfully with key stakeholders, communicate with upper management, and drive enthusiasm and adoption of new products
• Strong team player and contributor, leader, manager, mentor, and positive catalyst
• Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, within a very dynamic, fast-paced, and forward thinking environment
Nice to have:
• Full Stack development experience with Python, SQL, and any new full stack languages and libraries
• Experience with one compiled language (e.g., C/C , Java)
• Understanding of data structures and software design with strong analytical and debugging skills
• Proficiency in databases (eg. PostgreSQL, Redis), REST APIs, authentication systems
• Support database build out and maintenance
• Programming experience working in a cloud environment (e.g., AWS).
• Experience with DevOps (eg. orchestration, unit testing, performance monitoring, release management, infrastructure configuration, and web security)
• Published apps in the Apple or Android ecosystem
