Overview and Responsibilities
The Counsel, Multiplatform position works with the Business and Legal Affairs team to provide support in a broad variety of matters arising from the multiplatform business of Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN).
Responsibilities
include:
• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements arising from the multiplatform group, with a focus on multiplatform product deals and related patent items, multiplatform publishing deals, including app and game development and app and game store subscription agreements, and SVOD agreements
• Legal research and analysis on a broad range of legal and business affairs issues, including regulatory matters related to multiplatform and privacy
• Monitor contractual and regulatory compliance
• Provide advice and counsel on a variety of legal and business affairs matters
• Preparation, implementation and administration of VIMN-wide legal policies, procedures and best practices across multiple international jurisdictions
• Assist with various departmental and administrative functions and assignments requiring interaction with other groups within Multiplatform and Business and Legal Affairs, with attorneys supporting other client groups and with executives from Viacom’s various other businesses
• Maintain effective relationships with corporate, HQ, divisional and cluster groups
• Miscellaneous assignments in any other general corporate area
Basic Qualifications
• Law degree and admission to a state bar or equivalent international qualification required
• Minimum of 4-7 years of relevant experience, preferably with a law firm or in-house
• Extensive, in-depth knowledge of multiplatform/digital media, technology and internet law as well as contract and general corporate law is required
• Must be willing to travel as needed
Additional Qualifications
• Additional digital media related coursework a plus.
• US qualification desired but not required.
• Must have ability to evaluate complex agreements and effectively distill information for clients
• Must possess exceptional negotiating, drafting, organizational and communication skills
• Comfort working in international jurisdictions and strong client relations abilities a must
• Other required skills include flexibility, proactive, creative decision-making, leadership ability and comfort working with a team as well as autonomously (subject to supervision of manager)
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment, to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing, and to negotiate agreements with third parties independently
• Ability to work closely with and maintain effective relationships with Viacom personnel within and outside primary client group
• Relevant experience in the cable television and multiplatform/digital media industries is a plus
