VIZ Media is looking for a Localization Producer to join our Animation Production team!
The Producer is the creative and supervisory lead for localizing VIZ Media original Japanese animation, dubbed and subtitled, for the North American market. The Producer maintains the standard and quality of localized dub properties, by overseeing casting, adaptation, and recording for the department. This position works closely with our team that oversees the creation of our anime titles, including Naruto Shippuden, Sailor Moon, and Bleach.
Key candidate qualifications include:
• Successful performance in and experience with managing media production (TV, DVD/BD, post-production) in an entertainment, advertising, or studio environment a MUST.
• Prior experience supervising and coordinating team members, peers or direct reports, in a production environment a MUST.
• Knowledge of anime, manga, and related merchandise a MUST
• Knowledge of video/audio, broadcast, encoding, codec, other media production practices, terminology, materials, technology, and deliverables a MUST
• Ability to speak, read, and write in Japanese STRONGLY PREFERRED
SUMMARY
The Producer manages all coordination for localization production elements and schedules. This position produces English and/or International version of each assigned property and is responsible for production including dubbing for broadcast and delivery of materials essential for development of DVD, digital-related, and other video merchandise. This position works closely with management to oversee the complete production process and provide creative supervision to 3rd party vendors.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Provides creative and technical leadership and guidance to designated staff responsible for localizing VIZ Media animation content. Supervises designated production staff to ensure quality of output and on time delivery of products to market.
2. Creates, implements, and maintains English localization schedules as well as database for VIZ Media titles, including air dates and other applicable title information. Works closely with Marketing, Sales, and Publishing Licensing staff to establish efficient tracking, distribution, and archival of design and production elements.
3. Partners with department head to finalize recording studio contracts, casting, and assigning talent to properties.
4. Partners with ADR recording studios to supervise recording kickoffs, interviewing talent, and casting from audition pools for Writers, Director and VO talent.
5. Establishes and maintains best practices for localization procedures, internally and externally. Improves efficiency and enhances inter-departmental communication and reporting through process review and enhancement.
6. Reports to department heads regarding departmental goals and milestones, challenges and solutions.
7. Administers and facilitates the creative approval process with Licensors and IP rights holders in Japan.
8. Aligns adapted products for release to market, in conjunction with Sales and Marketing department.
9. Provides feedback and notes during the Quality Control process for audio mixes and script.
10. Provides regular updates and schedules to internal departments. Provides product information in a timely manner across internal departments and external partners to ensure consistent brand message on all productions.
11. Facilitates and works closely with domestic and international broadcast partners to provide production materials in compliance with their broadcast standards and delivery requirements

MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge of anime, manga, and related merchandise a MUST
• Knowledge of video/audio, broadcast, encoding, codec, other media production practices, terminology, materials, technology, and deliverables a MUST
• Ability to speak, read, and write in Japanese STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Experience with post production editing software (Final Cut Pro, AVID, & Pro-Tools) and DVD or Blu-ray authoring PREFERRED
• Strong creative writing skills PREFERRED
• Proficiency with computer usage, including email, Internet, and standard software
• Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English
• Ability to pay strong attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff
• Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork
• Ability to work legally in the United States
• Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area
MINIMUM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION
• Equivalent of 7-10 years of experience in delivering high quality video coordination duties related to Japanese-produced animation videos, TV programs, film, comics, or other related products.
• Successful performance in and experience with managing media production (TV, DVD/BD, post-production, studio) in an entertainment, advertising, or studio environment a MUST.
• Prior experience supervising and coordinating team members, peers or direct reports, in a production environment a MUST.
• Equivalent of Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises designated production staff and gives guidance to the work of interns and freelancers, mentors junior staff, and helps develop internal talent.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Approximately 80% of time spent on the job involves use of a video display terminal; therefore, must be able to sit for extended periods and to utilize standard ergonomics practices. Primarily works in an office environment, requiring the following activity: lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 15 pounds, kneeling, bending. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as copiers and faxes. Must be able to travel occasionally as needed.
As part of a multi-media entertainment company, employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence.
