The Director of Community Empowerment will lead station efforts to build and maintain current key relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, political leaders, and the business community in order to cultivate increased awareness and presence of the station and the population that we serve. This individual will partner internally with station and corporate leadership to understand business objectives in order to effectively guide the development and execution of key community empowerment campaigns.
• Represent the station to community groups, local schools, non-profit agencies, etc. Work weekends and evenings, as needed, to attend company-sponsored events, and/or business networking socials. Presence as MC at events, when requested. Maintains calendar of events. Keeps the station updated on these events and the need for participants etc.
• Identify events that provide branding opportunity for the station and interaction with key demographics for local market. (Events, parades, festivals, health fairs, community forums, etc.)
• Evaluate current station campaigns and develop new campaigns as needed.
• Produce public service announcements (PSAs) and vignettes that are part of the station campaign efforts. Monitor air time for PSAs. Coordinates placements of PSAs with Traffic Hub.
• Cultivate non-traditional sources of revenue.
• Schedule and coordinate Phone Banks.
• Maintains database of community organizations and community leaders and set up meetings to introduce our VP/GM.
• Assists/ coordinates with station tours by schools etc. to the station.
• Maintains the station's Public File; prepares and submits reports required by the FCC (quarterly), Risk Management, and NAB Cable Royalty etc.
• Drafts and/or reviews local press releases, scripts for speeches, local media requests and distribute as needed.
• Assists/ works with the Creative Services department to promote events.
• Answer inquiries from the public and provides information concerning local organizations.
• Other duties as deemed necessary.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree Desired.
Experience Requirements: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing and/or public affairs.
Basic Skills: Above average computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. Successful project management skills with history of driving projects to completion in a high-pressure and deadline driven environment. Creative and strong communication and inter-personal skills and a positive attitude. Ability to work independently and in a team environment while managing multiple assignments. Understands region and Hispanic market dynamics, issues and trends.
- Language Skills: Bilingual Spanish/English. High Fluency in Spanish (oral and written). A solid writing skill in Spanish is a must. Ability to write, and develop compelling press releases.
- Applicants must have a valid California Driver's license, proof of insurance, and a clean driving record
Physical Requirements: Ability to drive (travel throughout our area of coverage), stand, walk and sit for up to 8 hours. Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs.
