Promotion Executive, NA UMPG Classical
JOB DESCRIPTION:
UMPC is one of the oldest and largest classical music publishing groups in the world, including Ricordi (with offices in Milan, Berlin and London), Durand/Salabert/Eschig (Paris) and Editio Musica Budapest. UMPC has published works by immortals including Bartok, Debussy, Puccini, Ravel and Verdi, as well as leading living European composers including Giorgio Battistelli, Pascal Dusapin, Luca Francesconi, Heiner Goebbels, Gyorgyi Kurtag and Olga Neuwirth. UMPC seeks an experienced classical music promotion professional to increase performances and add to the repertoire in North America.
Duties These will include, among others:
• Promote works by all UMPC composers (living and legacy) to opera houses, orchestras, ensembles, festivals, ballet companies, conductors, soloists throughout the US and Canada
• Develop new markets and opportunities for an international roster of established and emerging composers.
• Regular exchange of information with classical promotion teams in Paris, Milan,
Berlin, London and Budapest.
• Sourcing materials necessary to service contacts, plus providing an information service
in response to telephone and email requests – e.g. perusal scores, audio and
audio-visual materials, composer information, programme notes, photos.
• Contribute to articles for UMPC newsletter, blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts
• Constantly expanding and updating knowledge of the repertoire contained in the
UMPC catalogue.
• Composer management for US-based composers and identification of possible new signings.
• Interfacing with commercial marketing on secondary exploitation.
• Attend concerts and music theatre performances as well as festivals and conferences
(travel when required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Experience/Qualities
1. Bachelor's Degree in music required.
2. Ability to read music coupled with a fluent knowledge of and deep appreciation for
contemporary classical composers and performers.
3. Ability to work well from a stand-alone environment with colleagues in multiple locations as
well as outside composers and clients.
4. More than two years of classical music publishing or agent/management experience
is very helpful.
5. Working knowledge of one or more of French, Italian or German is helpful.
