Summary: The Prop Artisan builds and maintains properties and scenic dressing for Entertainment Department projects and assists in the day-to-day operations of the Entertainment Production Center's prop shop.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the prop and design staff in the conception, quality, and timely production of properties on projects as assigned.
• Read and interpret scaled drawings, sketches, models, and pictures for the engineering of properties. Create and construct stage properties from verbal descriptions.
• Build props for productions. These projects may include but are not limited to: furniture, hand and set props, set dressing, and soft goods.
• Build rehearsal props as needed.
• Assist in the estimating of materials needed for specific projects.
• Help with installs and strikes.
• Maintain and repair props for short and long term projects.
• Assist in maintaining prop inventory and restock.
• Perform and promote safe practices either in the shop or onsite.
• Maintain order, cleanliness, and security of the Entertainment Production Center's prop shop, including props, drapery, tools and hardware stock. Maintain a safe, healthy and tidy work/shop environment.
• Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Must have skills and working knowledge of theatrical props and furniture, and professional construction techniques and materials through formal education and/or professional experience.
• Experience in furniture building, crafts, molding and casting, painting, sewing, and upholstery. The ability to work in many media, including wood, metal, plastics, etc
• Working knowledge of sewing machine, serger, table saw, radial arm saw, drill press, sanders and hand tools as well as appropriate safety techniques.
• Computer operation with usage of e-mail, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, FileMaker, internet navigation, and Microsoft Office suite programs including Word and Excel.
• Paper props and prop graphic skills a plus.
• Working knowledge of safety standards and the implementation of same.
• Theatrical background.
Desired Characteristics:
• Bachelor's degree or in Theatre, Production or related field.
• Solid understanding of production of live entertainment in a theme park environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, with confidence to multi-task and delegate as required.
• Ability to drive results of teams through strong leadership and development skills.
• Ability to identify and communicate creative solutions to challenges, and to maintain a consistent focus on priorities with persistent follow-through.
• Ability to deal well with ambiguity and constant change, working in fast-paced environments with accelerated production schedules.
• A strong passion to drive high quality results, both end product as well as process.
