Description
Job title: Transfer Engineer
Responsible to: Head of Mastering
Department: Post Production
Location of work: Woolwich
Main Purpose of the Role
The Transfer Engineer will be responsible for transferring audio to a digital file format via digital audio workstation from a variety of different sources. This will be primarily from analogue tape sources ranging from ¼'' stereo to 2'' multitrack but will also include digital formats such as 1630 Umatic, DAT, Genex, etc. The purpose is to preserve their audio content and metadata for future use and/or supply it to clients in a specified manner. It is imperative the transfers must reproduce the original recorded audio as accurately as possible. You will also be expected to liaise closely with the library team to help assess tape content.
Person Specification
You will need to be familiar with the operation of digital workstations in general (and SADiE in particular). Experience of handling analogue tape and analogue tape machines is fundamental while familiarity with formats such as DAT, CDR, DVD-R, Sony 1630 uMatic and the relevant equipment used will be beneficial.
• Conscientious and able to work with minimal supervision
• The ability to prioritise effectively and work to meet tight and exacting deadlines
• Excellent communication skills are required for liaison with clients
• A strong team player and willingness to multitask as required
• Clear commitment to and consistent delivery of excellent customer service, high quality production and technical excellence
• A degree or music related technology qualification is required.
• Previous experience or knowledge and understanding of Post Production would be a distinct advantage
• Familiarity with linear timecode and synchronisation techniques (SMPTE)
• An enthusiastic, pro-active approach
• Ability to establish a co-operative working relationship with customers and other members of the studio group
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• Familiarity with a DAW such as SADiE, plus a working knowledge of analogue and digital tape formats
