Job Summary:

The Senior Director, Finance Marketing & Planning (M&P) is responsible for managing the annual M&P spend for the Capitol Music Group Labels (Capitol Records, Virgin Records, Blue Note, Astralwerks, Harvest and Motown). Maintain and establish controls, systems and procedures in accordance with UMG policies. Monitors and puts into place work processes, from project inception through invoice payment, such that only duly authorized expenditures are incurred. Provide analysis, feedback and recommendations to senior management on spending effectively relative to current sales objectives on a project-by project basis. Develop annual budgets and monthly forecast for M&P spending.
Job Functions:
• Work with individual project managers to develop and monitor detailed budgets for each approved project. Further develop and administer the process for the approval of project budgets and subsequent revisions. Provide analysis, feedback and recommendations regarding the appropriateness of spending proposal relative to sales goals, project profitability and marketing plans. Field and resolve such issues as they arise regarding changes in marketing spending plans on a project-by-project basis. Develop communication mechanisms such that all impacted parties are kept current on issues and budget changes. Perform post project reviews-draw conclusions and develop recommendations regarding effectiveness of marketing strategies and spending levels.
• Develop the annual budget and monthly forecast for M&P spending. Develop monthly accruals for open commitments. Monitor the accrual for coop spending for accuracy. Insures that all expenditures are properly stated in the financial records in accordance with UMG accounting policy. Analyze and provide detailed explanations for all variances to budget and previous forecast on a project and account level. Additionally, prepare the necessary month end reports to be utilized in the monthly review meetings with Senior Management.
• Manages the purchase order commitment system. Ensure that approved budgets are updated in the system promptly. Serves as the secondary supporter of the Analyst for user training and support, and handles system security and maintenance.
• Maintains the accuracy of the UMG Financial Forecasting Tool (BPC). Forecast budget plans, phasing and all departmental expenses for all areas of Marketing. During month end, ensure that the financials are accurately appropriated by month according to each individual artist marketing plan.
• Manage the activities of the Manager Finance, Marketing Planning and Financial Analyst, Marketing Planning. Prioritize work as necessary. Provides technical guidance, training and performance evaluations.
• Generate and publish periodic management reports, highlights area of concern. Performs ad hoc analysis upon request from the CFO, Capitol Music Group and other senior Management. Target specific areas for cost reduction, such as promotional product, tickets, tour support, etc.
• Establish mechanisms to manage recoupable spend and/or re-billable to affiliates or outside parties. Ensure that processes are in place such that proper up front approvals are received, costs are tracked, billings are processed promptly, and spending does not exceed pre-approved levels.
• Ensure that marketing personnel have the training and tools necessary to properly process the invoice. Assist with problems and troubleshoot daily to preserve the integrity of the data going into the financial system

• Proven business acumen, ability to interface effectively with all levels of management in order to enforce policies and procedures and to successfully resolve issues.
• Requires development of excellent rapport with personnel in all areas of the company.
• Competence with standard business hardware and software (Excel required)
Experience:
• 7 years or professional experience in accounting or finance

Education:
• Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting
• MBA / CPA a plus
