Description
Job title: Senior Director Transportation
Responsible to: UMG, SVP Physical Supply Chain
Department: Physical Supply Chain
Location of work: Kensington Village, London
Main purpose of role
The Senior Director of Transportation is a role that will have multi-territory responsibility for Transportation management with the overall responsibility to define, develop, implement and provide management oversight for UMG’s Supply Chain related Transportation activity. The scope of the role will include transportation management for Europe, North America with support as required for the rest of the world. The Senior Director will work to directly source transport requirements with carriers and work to define supplier sourced transportation strategies to ensure requirements are met with the lowest possible direct staff. The operational scope will include developing routing strategies, managing the day to day carrier interactions, maintain oversight of the freight audit and pay requirements for transportation invoices and provide management reporting for spend analysis, budgeting, and maintain ongoing cost reduction initiatives to ensure a low cost / high value function. The 2017 Freight budget is circa €20m euros.
The role will be responsible for the following (this is not an exhaustive list): -
• Leading and managing the International and North American transportation operations to deliver to agreed contracted service levels and to ensure costs are maintained within planned budget levels (this is flexed based on actual volumes).
• Developing long term strategic partnerships with key service providers to ensure UMG has robust future proof transport networks for all modes of transport for all shipment requirements.
• Negotiating carrier contracts and transportation services with strategic supply chain partners to ensure seamless operational hans-offs between distribution service partners, carriers, NDUs and UMG business units.
• Develop and maintain clear reporting to operational business units of costs, performance and savings opportunities aligned to changing operational strategies.
• Managing and developing key OpCo business relationships to ensure that freight partners are briefed on any relevant future business changes, the cost impact of various decisions / strategies, and changing transportation initiatives designed to generate savings and / or operational improvements.
• Ensuring that there is a QBR (quarterly business review) with all key freight providers, where all key performance metrics (including costs) are reviewed and actions are followed up where improvements are required.
• Ensure that all freight partners / Distribution service providers and UMG OpCos and NDUs adhere to proper export, tax and duty reporting and that the group is current on transport legislation and that all legal, insurance and safety requirements are maintained.
• Ensure that customs/import/export documentation is prepared accurately and timely in support of UMG’s global physical business. Own the creation of documentation as appropriate.
• Ensure the group has an effective BCP in place for transportation management for each territory.
• Develop key Executive dashboards for SLA performance and cost / spend reporting.
• Work to share and develop best practices across the wider Group
Person specification
Essential
• Excellent motivational and communication skills
• Extensive freight management experience required and a college degree
• Detailed knowledge of European transportation management strategies, processes, carriers and tariff structures
• North American, UK and European geographic knowledge, and the ability to travel as required to meet job requirements
• Strong freight modelling capabilities and effective presentation skills to format and communicate financial and SLA data to key stakeholders
• Current knowledge of parcel, LTL, truck load, se freight and air freight shipment management in a time sensitive, product sensitive environment
Desirable
• A CPC holder or an advanced college degree would have an advantage
• One or more European language would be a distinct advantage
