Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) is the leading global music publisher with more than 57 offices in 47 countries. UMPG is currently searching to fill the role of Music Sampling Assistant. We're looking for someone who is intelligent and driven. An affinity for hip-hop is helpful, too.
The Music Sampling Assistant is part of our Copyright Team and supports the Manager of Music Sampling. The Music Sampling Team touches almost every aspect of publishing; from listening to brand new songs, to licensing and tracking the income. The Music Sampling Assistant will liaise with many departments at UMPG, including Business Affairs, Copyright, Creative, Finance, Income Tracking, and Royalties as well as UMPG's foreign offices and the major record labels. This position has the ability to grow for the right candidate. The ideal candidate has a passion for music and the business behind the music.
B. Job Functions:
• Assist with the approval process of new songs with samples and interpolations
• Send official approval and denial emails
• Handle adaptation and translation requests
• Manage audio files and digital documents, perform general income tracking
duties, process sample fees
• Schedule meetings, follow-up with clients and labels, and create spreadsheets
for presentations which are both informative and aesthetically pleasing
• Field requests and questions both internally and externally

Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
• Outgoing personality with a willingness to aggressively chase down information
• Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure, multi-task and prioritize
• Ability to perform research, summarize info and report back findings
• Ability to meet deadlines and safeguard confidential information
• Strong typing and computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Basic understanding of music publishing and copyright
• General knowledge of current music and hip-hop
• Ability to assist with developing new processes that will create efficiency
• Some mathematics skills required
Experience:
• Experience with clearing samples, infringements, or negotiating songwriter
splits is helpful but not required
• 2-3 years Music Industry legal/licensing/A&R/admin experience is a plus
• Familiarity with recording agreements is a plus
Education:
• High school equivalent or higher required
• College degree in Music Business preferred
