A. Job Summary: In partnership with the finance team of Universal Music Logistics (UML), a subsidiary of Universal Music Group/UMG) responsible for the physical supply chain; this position will be a key member of UML's financial reporting & accounting team within UMG's Central Accounting Services (CAS) department. This position will support the monthly close for UML and work closely with UML's finance team to ensure accurate and timely submission of monthly financial results to UMG global finance in London. In addition, this position will be primarily responsible for the inventory accounting on behalf of all UMG labels, including the monthly reconciliation of inventory balances and providing analytical reports to the UMG labels to assist in the analysis of manufacturing costs. The position will also entail interactions with various groups within UMG and external parties such as manufacturing vendors and auditors.
Our mission in CAS is to continually expand our contribution to the company by providing excellent customer service to the various UMG divisions, while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of UMG's IFRS based financial statements. We are looking for an individual with proven team leadership skills, a passion for process renewal, a solid technical foundation in GAAP, experience in providing excellent customer service and a solid background in manufacturing.
B. Job Functions:
• Overall responsibility for all inventory accounting across all UMG labels:
o Primary liaison within the UMG finance community on resolving issues and providing appropriate reports or analytics on areas of the balance sheet and income statement impacted by inventory accounting, including manufacturing costs analysis and
obsolescence/scrapping analysis
o Oversee the reconciliation of physical sales interfaces between the source systems Legacy/SR and SAP
o Liaise with UML finance team to resolve issues and questions from UMG labels and distribution company accounting and finance teams surrounding SR (sales & inventory) interfaces
o Provide reconciliation of inventory balances to label accounting & finance teams
o Detailed review of journal entries prepared by BPO staff (offshore resources in Mumbai) related to inventory – these entries impact other UMG labels' general ledger activity
• Assist the UML lead manager in managing the monthly close process and ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with IFRS and submitted within global corporate deadlines for UML:
o Detailed review of journal entries prepared by BPO staff (offshore resources in Mumbai), as directed by UML lead manager
o Review various analyses (income statement/balance sheet) prepared by BPO staff to validate the monthly close of UML
o Maintain appropriate supporting documents to ensure compliance with internal control and Sox documentation requirements
o Assist in the submission of financial results to UMG's global consolidation system HFM
• Liaise with internal or external auditors and provide audit deliverables and inquiry resolution.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and assist in the annual internal controls compliance testing.
• Continue process improvements and develop new, more efficient procedures to assist in meeting tight reporting deadlines.
C. Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Advanced Excel proficiency a must.
• Knowledge SAP accounting software preferred.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast paced financial environment.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years financial reporting experience.
• Manufacturing industry experience and solid knowledge of cost accounting required.
• Music industry financial reporting experience preferred.
• Experience in working in a BPO (outsourced) environment.
Education:
• BA in Accounting or related field of study, MBA or CPA valued.
