Universal Music Group (UMG) currently has an opening for a Director of Tax & Statutory Reporting position within its Central Accounting Services (CAS) division. Reporting to the VP/Group Controller, U.S., this position will support the UMG US entities in all tax matters including the consolidated tax provision, tax compliance matters and statutory/government reporting. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years of combined public accounting (tax division) and corporate tax reporting; with experience in a wide range of technical tax and accounting issues. This position will be expected to provide tax guidance to the UMG accounting and finance community.

Primary responsibilities:
• Supervise and review the submission of the month-end close results of the US tax entity into HFM consolidation system: - Calculation of consolidated tax expense based on the latest forecast ETR (effective tax rate) - Review & preparation of quarterly tax supplemental schedules in HFM
• Reviewing/preparing the annual consolidated tax provision for all of UMG US entities. This entails working with Vivendi Tax department in analysing the accounts and transactions of all US entities to identify permanent and timing differences; reviewing significant transactions and agreements to identify impact to the tax provision.
• Coordinate with Vivendi Tax department annual preparation of the tax trial balances; including booking
required
tax or statutory adjustments (adjustments from management to tax/statutory)
• Reconciliation of all tax accounts, including income, sales and use and withholding taxes
• Return to Provision (RTP) reconciliation performed annually.
• Provide guidance to the business community regarding all tax matters, including but not limited to sales and use tax and withholding (1099 and 1042) tax issues.
• Manage the sales and use tax filings; including periodic updates on sales and use tax rates
• Provide assistance to Vivendi tax on all tax audits – sales & use tax, state income taxes and federal income taxes
• Filing tax related forms as requested by the business community
• Quarterly forecast and annual plan calculation of the tax provision.
• Quarterly and annual governmental surveys/reports
• Responsibility for the financial statements (actuals and plan/forecast) of UMG service entities (GSA/DDS) which involves intercompany reporting & reconciliation.
• Assist the legal department in dissolution and withdrawal of legal entities – ensure activity is properly booked to reflect dissolution of legal entities
• Work with external auditors to support tax accounts
• Supporting special projects, process improvement initiatives and interaction with internal and external auditors.
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills – ability to effectively communicate tax requirements to functional groups throughout the company
• Strong analytical skills required; along with attention to detail and the ability to effectively multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Strong Excel & Word skills required
Experience:
• 5 to 7 years of relevant tax experience – combined public & corporate tax reporting. Experience with Big 4
preferred
• Strong technical tax and accounting knowledge; with demonstrated experience in tax compliance & financial reporting
• Experience with General Ledger application such as SAP, JD Edwards or Lawson
• Experience with HFM and Hyperion Planning a plus
• Music or Entertainment industry experience a plus
• Authorized to work in the US.
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting a must, CPA required, Master's degree in Tax preferred
