Main purpose of role
At Universal Music, we are transforming our company by maximising our core music revenues everywhere (streaming, downloads, licensing, neighbouring rights, integrated rights, D2C, etc.), reducing the cost-to-serve of declining legacy markets whilst actively mitigating the rate of decline and transforming into a music-based, global media company, servicing global media partners consistently and coherently across all revenue streams. To support this strategy, IT is investing in a strategic platform of composable services and data, able to quickly adapt to changes in our business and operating model while reducing the cost-to-serve of our legacy IT landscape through consolidation, rationalization and cost-effective delivery.
The Delivery Lead works alongside primary business sponsors and their teams. The Delivery Lead also leads development teams based in London, LA and India and will be skilled in all aspects of Agile platform delivery from Product ownership, Analysis, Development, QA through to Operations. Our platform strategy revolves around core principles of innovation, sharing and re-use and the teams that deliver the platform should also demonstrate these principles in their day-to-day ways of working. Success in this role will require continuously redefining the team’s mission to accommodate the ever-changing needs of the business and IT organizations.
The Delivery Lead will report into the Head of Strategic Initiatives/Head of Build and will work alongside other Delivery Leads across Supply Chain, Commercial Initiatives & Corporate Services.
• Work with your Business Sponsors and their teams to define the delivery roadmap, resourcing and budget to enable the desired business outcomes
• Work with your colleagues in Strategic Initiatives and across the broader IT organisation to ensure that the appropriate work is undertaken to support your delivery roadmap and that you are enabling the delivery of the technology strategy and roadmap
• Oversee a team of Scrums Masters/Project Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, QAs and Dev Ops Leads to deliver the tools & technologies required to support the business transformation initiatives and the desired business processes & outcomes
• Implement effective program & project management disciplines (governance, risk management, budget management, etc.) and ensure these are clearly understood and working effectively for both IT and business stakeholders
• Ensure that delivery is transparent, effective and efficient and progress is clearly communicated to all stakeholders, Looks to continuously improve how delivery works by surfacing and correcting any barriers to organizational and delivery effectiveness.
• Bring together teams that traditionally have worked in silos and/or using non agile delivery practises and meld them into a single team with a common purpose and shared outlook
• Ensure there are clear and agreed processes in place to transition services to operational mode and to ensure that the business is being effectively supported.
Person Specification
• You are a starter-initiator who enables and drives delivery of change
• You are focused on driving well organised delivery forward to time, quality and budget targets
• You are a trusted listener and leader of people at senior sponsor and operational levels.
• You are comfortable working with teams dispersed across geographies and timezones and are happy to undertake regular travel (every 6-8 weeks) between the UK and the US
• You are passionate about creating inclusive, creative and effective environments where people can do their best work
• You get energy from helping other people be successful
• You have experience leading lean / agile software development teams, and are interested in a role applying what you have learned at a higher level
• You are great at leading small teams that accomplish outsized things
• You are equally comfortable with developers, product owners, CTOs and senior business executives
• You have a high degree of comfort with “working out loud,” making work-in-progress visible for constant feedback
• You are able to thrive and have fun while working on critical, highly visible activities, often on a very short timeframe
