Job Summary:
Are you interested in working for the music industry? Does the prospect of mining billions of data points to discover hidden insights about the way we all love, listen, and interact with music make you salivate?
Universal Music Group is looking for a Data Analyst to help structure and mine our internal databases to drive key learnings and business recommendations using collected and public data on our market-leading reach.
The ideal candidate should be well-versed in data analysis and financial modelling, with a good understanding (or an eagerness to learn) the innovative business models that are currently revolutionizing digital and Internet-based media. We prefer candidates that have experience querying SQL databases, but can help train this skill if the candidate has a strong Excel background.
This position will be working directly with the Global Analytics team at UMG, providing research and insights to our labels and territories. The analyst may also be called on to help oversee some data workflow initiatives our team is prioritizing this year.
Job Functions:
• Query our database systems to gather and perform detailed analysis to support our strategy, marketing, and business development divisions
• Work between our IT division and business units to bridge together data and business strategy
• Communicate key insights from our data sources regarding music listening behaviour
• Present data to our business units, in written or presentation format
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Passion and curiosity for music and behavioural research
• Ability to query data and databases (e.g. MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL/Redshift)
• Familiarity with statistics concepts and tools
• Openness to learning new Big Data technologies and techniques
Experience:
• Experience cleaning and auditing data, in preparation for analysis
• Experience working with MS Excel in an analytics/numbers-based role
• Experience working with BI products such as Microstrategy
• Tech, investment banking, or consulting experience preferred
Education:
• BA/BS degree required. MBA desirable.
