JOB DESCRIPTION:
A. Job Summary:
Are you interested in working for the music industry? Does the prospect of mining billions of data points to discover hidden insights about the way we all love, listen, and interact with music make you salivate?
Universal Music Group is looking for a data analyst to help structure and mine our internal databases to drive key learnings and business recommendations using collected and public data on our market-leading reach.
The ideal candidate should be well-versed in database structures and querying, with a good understanding (or an eagerness to learn) the innovative business models that are currently revolutionizing digital and Internet-based media. The candidate should also be comfortable working with legacy databases.
This position will be working directly under the Associate Director of Analysis at Universal Music to help maintain and build consumer databases containing key business metrics. The analyst will also help provide data-driven insights to senior executives throughout UMG.
B. Job Functions:
• Build and maintain databases containing key metrics for the global analytics team
• Query our database systems to gather and perform detailed analysis to support our
strategy, marketing, and business development divisions
• Work between our IT division and business units to bridge together data and
business strategy
• Communicate key insights from our data sources regarding music listening behavior
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Skills & Abilities:
• Strong knowledge of data and databases (e.g. MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL/Redshift)
• Passion and curiosity for music and behavioral research
• Proficient in building data tables from a myriad of sources
• Ability to scrape and import data from public or internal sources
• Openness to learning new Big Data technologies and techniques
Experience:
• Experience cleaning and auditing data, in preparation for analysis
• Experience working with MS Excel in an analytics/numbers-based role
• Experience working with BI products such as Microstrategy
• Familiarity with statistics concepts and tools
Education:
• BA/BS degree required, preferably in an information systems capacity
