Corporate & Development Associate (Strategic Finance)
Description
The Corporate Development and Strategy team at Universal Music is looking for a full-time Associate. Based in Santa Monica, CA, the Associate will report to the Sr. Director of Corporate Development & Strategy and support the corporate strategy development efforts by analyzing growth drivers and opportunities across the company’s diverse portfolio of businesses. This position will play a key role in the financial analysis of business initiatives and operations: he or she will participate in a broad range of strategic topics such as core, new business, and cross-functional initiatives, strategic planning & business reviews, and investment appraisals.
Job Functions:
• Drive financial and operational analysis
• Conduct research to support internal business projects and analyze operational trends
• Drive competitive & market analysis, and assist on strategic reviews aimed at understanding the evolution and growth areas of the music industry, as well as analyzing Universal Music’s positioning
• Recommends best practices for improving internal processes across business units
• Evaluate potential acquisitions, investments and other strategic growth opportunities
• Author internal documents (presentations, memorandums, etc.)
• Improve current processes to facilitate team communication and decision-making
• Lead special projects as assigned in connection with the team goals and strategy
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
• Strong proficiency in Financial systems (i.e. Hyperion Financial Management / Smartview Reporting, SAP and BPC Planning), Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Superior analytical, problem solving, accounting and financial modelling skills
• Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple assignments
• Must think independently and critically, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Highly personable with strong team-working skills
Experience:
• Relevant professional experience in accounting, corporate finance, consulting, corporate strategy, or similar field required (5 years of experience)
• Previous relevant experience in the music industry a plus
• High level of intellectual curiosity, especially around technology and the music / entertainment industry
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree preferably in finance, accounting, business, economics or other related field
• CPA / MBA experience a plus
