Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to improve organizational effectiveness through the design and delivery of strategies that recognize and reward critical skills, capabilities, and performance and ensure that reward strategies are market-based, equitable and cost-effective. The Compensation & Benefits Director manages compensation and benefits programmes and policies for our APAC and EMEA markets from design through to implementation and maintenance. The individual provides subject matter expertise and is responsible for the effective delivery of the reward and performance cycle activities in partnership with the global Compensation and local HR teams.
Compensation
• Develop and implement the regions’ reward approach, ensuring that plans and policies are aligned with business strategy, support the attraction and retention of the best talent, and deliver value for money
• Partner with the global Compensation team in continuously reviewing and developing relevant global reward policies and guidelines representing the regions’ needs in the planning and development; recommend changes or localization where necessary and drive the implementation of appropriate solutions
• Partner with global Compensation and lead regional design and implementation of a new job levelling framework, establishing career levels, job families, salary ranges and the relevant tools and guidelines for HR and business leadership and line managers to effectively deploy the job structure
• Regularly evaluate market data, participate in industry and market benchmarking surveys and produce appropriate reports and strategies; perform ad-hoc pay reviews and evaluations
• Govern and manage the annual common merit review process (CMR) across the regions and in partnership with global Compensation, advising and educating HR partners and the line throughout the process
• Responsible for annual merit budget recommendations and guidelines based on market and industry benchmarks
• Act as subject matter expert in the design, roll-out and on-going communication of sales and other short-term variable incentive plans, managing incentive plan cycles in partnership with Finance and HR Partners
• Ensure consistent application of all compensation schemes across the organization, educating and advising HR and business as required
• Responsible for proactively managing the EMEA and APAC Executive population’s compensation, encompassing all reward components including base salary, short-term incentive scheme and equity (RSU and stock), contract expiry and review dates; perform and provide regular market benchmarks and advising on appropriate adjustments
• Work closely with the global Compensation team in monitoring and maintaining up to date and accurate employee data related to TimeWarner equity schemes for the relevant population
• Partner with the Talent Development Managers in the regions and global People Development team in shaping, developing and implementing the performance management strategy that is aligned to recognizing high performance and building a culture of accountability and excellence; Champion the link between reward, performance and business strategy, ensuring alignment in all communications and solutions
• Develop relationships with HR and business leads in the regions, partnering proactively to develop solutions to compensation issues specific to markets, geographies and job families
• Build HR and line capability in relation to rewarding critical capabilities and performance and develop and drive the delivery of appropriate interventions and solutions
• Build and leverage a strong external network to keep abreast with market and industry developments and bring new perspectives to the Reward function
Benefits
• Lead market benchmarking of current benefit offerings, ensuring effective communication, training, supplier relationship management and payment and support that meets stakeholder needs
• Leverage TimeWarner, TimeWarner’s benefit broker relationships to be competitive and cost efficient in most markets
• Lead the annual review and renewal of regional benefits schemes, providing relevant benchmarking data ensuring that benefit offerings continue to be market-competitive and cost effective
• Manage relationships with external benefits suppliers
• Liaise with TW Benefits department and participate in TW Benefits Council, including attending quarterly meetings and working with TW colleagues on benefits initiatives across the TW group
• Effectively communicate changes to benefits programmes and annual open enrolment process
• Remain up to date with legislative changes related to employee benefits or conditions of relevant policies, partner with the legal departments in maintaining such policies to ensure legal compliance
• Partner with Employee Services and the relevant members in the HR team to ensure all employee benefits schemes and individual enrollment is effectively managed, providing suppliers with all relevant employee/participants data to transact the benefits
Competencies and Person Specification
• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, Finance/Accounting or other related field required
• Master in business, HR management or related field desired
• Work experience in a fast paced multinational business environment required
• Industry experience (FMCG, High Tech, Media) preferred
• International experience in reward strategy and planning, compensation and benefits policy and processes, including external and internal benchmarking required
• Superior knowledge of relevant (APAC, EMEA) market practices and international law governing salary and benefits is essential
• Knowledge of range of HR disciplines, including international mobility, employee relations, employee tax, performance management, and organisation culture
• Excellent and highly numerate analyst
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to explain complex subjects
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft as well as other HR systems and processes
• Ability to present data in a logical and concise manner
• Superior project management skills
• Must be well-organised and be able to resolve problems diplomatically and effectively
• Highly proficient in Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate and work effectively across geographic and business boundaries within team and with senior business stakeholders
