Duties: This position oversees all aspects of Technical Operations including the managing of all staff and freelance Technical Directors, A1's, Graphics Ops and Playback Ops.
This includes:
Overseeing all hiring, schedule coordination and performance management.
Presence during critical on-air productions to ensure smooth operations will be required.
Works with Sr. Director of Studio Technical Operations in setting long-term direction for department.
Maintain a high level technical staff and freelance personnel pool.
Works closely with Sr. Director of Studio Technical Operations on all strategic personnel decisions, including hiring, training, performance management and career development.
Works with Studio Operations and Scheduling Coordinators to keep process flow smooth.
This position also partners with all production units to determine staffing recommendations for various shows.
This includes:
Providing appropriate staff for prep sessions, live and non-live productions.
Manage traffic through production rooms for maximum efficiency and to avoid scheduling conflicts.
Presence in production areas during critical on air times is required.
The Director of Technical Services is the direct liaison between Operations, Production and Engineering. This position is expected to provide recommendations for solving technical issues related to production. Daily reporting of high level production issues will be required. Immediate reporting to upper management as situations warrant will also be required.
This position is also responsible for staying up to date with current and future technology.
This includes:
Partnering with equipment manufacturers and vendors to strategically improve hardware and software through R&D.
Active involvement in all purchase decisions is required.
Partner with engineering department to ensure smooth integration and workflows.
Manages Technical Operations expense budget, and works closely with Sr. Director of Studio Technical Operations in annual expense budgeting, capital budgeting and Long Range Planning (including long range technical and facility planning).
Qualifications: 15 Years Television Production Experience 5 Years Supervisory experience. Must have strong operational knowledge of digital production infrastructures.
