This is our story
BEST Engineering is Turner's engineering function that delivers broadcast technology services to all of our brands, manages broadcast and studio technology investments for our U.S. networks, and provides international engineering for our news networks. In addition, BEST supports Turner's file based production workflows for Entertainment, News, and Sports from content creation to distribution.
What part will you play?
The Broadcast & IT Resource Manager provides technical oversight and staff management within a fast paced, 24x7x365 news and production environment.
What will you be doing?
Manages and coaches a highly skilled technical staff in support of live broadcast, post-production and enterprise IT systems, being accountable for both individual and team performances with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
The incumbent will join a team that maintains a full broadcast production center and broadcast chain for the major CNN News networks.
Successful delivery of enterprise-wide broadcast/IT support requires one to foster a collaborative working relationship with key stakeholders and in partnership with subject matter experts across cities to meet the needs of a large base of customers.
IT systems to support include desktop and laptop pcs, mobile devices, SAN storage, network switches, etc. In-house broadcast production support of live shows will require a thorough systems knowledge of an IP-centric broadcast infrastructure and production workflow which includes control rooms, newsroom and on-air graphic systems, studios, feeds/edit system, terminal gear room, A/V routing, signal processing, etc.
Adherence to the ITSM Service Management process in planning and managing changes to minimize impact in a critical broadcast environment and to deliver value to our customers is required. This includes documenting issues/requests and escalating as required for problem management and resolution.
The ability to scope, review and determine a budget for projects, and following the project management process is required.
Incumbent must have experience and demonstrate excellence in planning and communication skills, including effective prioritization of tasks and multi-tasking between several projects.
A willingness to perform varied tasks, adopt to changing priorities and strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
What do we require from you?
BS in Computer Science, MIS, business, or equivalent education/training/experience
Typically, 6 or more years' experience in managing a team who provide IT/broadcast support in television broadcasting/ production environment.
At least one year as a Project Manager or similarly recognized senior/leadership role.
Demonstrated understanding of the software development life cycle and experience with major technology deployment projects.
Demonstrated competency with basic server, networking topology and operating systems (e.g., NT, Unix, etc.)
Must be willing to be on call for coverage of critical technical systems or breaking news production needs Willingness to learn Turner/CNN proprietary equipment and applications.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interface all levels of management and user community.
Hands-on manager capable of managing and coaching diverse staff of engineers and technicians
Excellent Customer Service skills with attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, make critical decisions on limited information, and direct the work of others in a high stress environment.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team based environment to ensure 24x7x365 support for our customers.
Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems.
Demonstrated self-starter and shows interest in accomplishing goals and developing new strategies.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding and accountability by making decisions based on logic, facts, and allocation of resources.
Ability to provide technical support and operational training with supporting documentation for peers and customers'
Ability to travel if needed
