BEST Engineering is Turner's engineering function that delivers broadcast technology services to all of our brands, manages broadcast and studio technology investments for our U.S. networks, and provides international engineering for our news networks. In addition, BEST supports Turner's file based production workflows for Entertainment, News, and Sports from content creation to distribution.
Duties: This position is responsible for ensuring the continued operation of the Broadcast Inventory Management (BIM) system within Network Operations. The system is a multi-tiered central archive comprising Fiber Channel disk and StorageTek (Oracle) SL-8500 tape libraries. The different tiers are managed by Oracle's DIVArchive system.
Signiant's Manager and Transfer Agents are used to orchestrate workflows including file migration comprising transcoding and quality analysis.
Amberfin iCRs are used to ingest content directly to Harmonic MediaGrid's.
Snell Automation controls the overall movement of content from MediaGrid, to Archive, to On-Air playout servers.
The BIM system administrator is responsible for ensuring all storage devices are functioning correctly, as well as the higher level hardware and software platforms.
On a daily basis the BIM system administrator can expect to work on technical concerns that may involve a close partnership with respective product vendors to resolve the issue.
The system continually expands so some installation of hardware can be expected; this routinely involves allocation of storage, zoning of hosts, workflow creation, installation of Linux, upgrade of transcoder software, etc.
Daily monitoring of the system is required to ensure it is working efficiently (ensuring storage tiers are balanced, tape fragmentation is kept to a minimum, tape drives are working optimally).
The BIM System Administrator will also assist in the configuration and maintenance of workflows within Signiant and other components of the BIM system including Video File Transcode engines and Auto QC engines.
Another equally important responsibility is the continued support of the Operational and Maintenance groups who will be using the system.
Since the system is on-line 7x24 some out of hours support is required.
Qualifications:
This position requires an Associate degree in electrical/electronic engineering or information technology/computer science.
Applicants should have a minimum of five years experience in a broadcast and/or IT environment.

Experience with the following would also be desirable: MSSQL database administration, Broadcast Video Servers, Broadcast Automation.
