SEEKING: SENIOR VISUAL EFFECTS ARTIST for our DEFIANCE, game
DEFIANCE™ is the first multi-platform shooter MMO, that in a ground-breaking entertainment experience, interconnects with a global television program on Syfy. The game combines the intense action of a console third-person shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart exudes the scope, story, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic.
Being developed for the PC, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, DEFIANCE unites the MMORPG and Shooter game genres across the most popular platforms.
Trion Worlds is seeking a talented Senior Visual Effects artist to create AAA-quality visual FX for our Syfy Action MMO. This person is responsible for prototyping and creating visual effects for real-time use in games.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the FX team, Lead Artist, Art Director, designers, programmers, and concept artists to create final art, from early concept stages through completion of assets within a scheduled timeframe
Create compelling real-time visual FX for characters, environments, and gameplay
Communicate problem areas, expectations, and desired modifications to leads
Optimize assets to run at desirable frame-rates and fit within memory limitations
Create clean and organized assets, file structures and storage
Keep abreast of changes and improvements made to the game engine and production pipeline during development
Work with the Lead Artists, Technical Artists and Tools Programmers to create and augment proprietary effect toolset
Utilize particle systems, shaders and mesh effects
REQUIREMENTS
At least 5 years professional VFX experience, including full cycle support for at least 3 game titles
A portfolio or reel that demonstrates a strong knowledge of real-time particle system movement and the evolution of various visual effects
Excellent experience with game engines and artist tools, including fluency in Maya and Photoshop
Experience with natural real-time particle effects (fire, smoke, water, weather, etc.) and weapon FX
Working knowledge of the effects production-pipeline, including understanding of memory, poly, and texture limitations as they relate to the effects and render engine
Knowledge of shader creation and use
Ability to model and texture within Maya
Minimum one game shipped with credit in the role of Visual FX artist
Passionate about video games of all types, including consoles and MMOs
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of other disciplines with 3D art, including modeling, lighting, rendering and special effects
PLUSES
Art-related college degree: BA or BFA
Experience using and setting up Havok destruction systems
Working knowledge of After Effects or similar
