Operator, On-Air Per Diem
MAJOR PURPOSE:
Responsible for On Air Operations, including setting up, controlling and monitoring television broadcasting equipment to transmit television programs and commercials to the viewing audience. Additional duties include on-air switching, dubbing, transferring programs, and gathering satellite feeds for broadcast use.
• Operate the Master Control position by utilizing an automation system ''to air'' all programs and commercials following the pre-printed program log following KTXL and FCC guidelines
• Edit automation playlist as necessary to ensure that all desired elements are broadcast correctly
• Maintain current knowledge of the operation of all technical equipment within the department
• Record from satellite all pre-scheduled programming and/or commercials; insuring proper technical set up of recording machine and checking recorded material
• Monitor transmitter for proper operation
• Maintain transmitter operating log and official program log to FCC, FAA and KTXL requirements
• Prepare commercial and programming material for air
• Operate news ENG receiving equipment
• Additional duties as necessary
Education and Experience
• Minimum 1-2 years experience with operation and set up of commercial television equipment
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Must be able to work well under pressure
• Must be able to work well with others in a constantly and sometimes immediately changing situation
• Must have the ability to make decisions and take prompt action
• Must be able to work alone and unsupervised when necessary
• Must be able to work an assigned shift during the 24 hour, 7 day ''on air'' schedule
• Intermediate computer skills
• Must have attention to detail with great accuracy
• Knowledge of video file formats and transfer methods
• Must be able to rename/copy/move/delete files as well as transfer files via ETP or download files via http.
• Use and knowledge of specialized and standard broadcast equipment
• General knowledge of FCC rules and regulations
Working Relationships
• Must be capable of working with all other engineers within the department and with all other station personnel
• Must be able to accept changes made to the operation log and adjust ''on air'' programming as necessary
• Must be able to adjust and assist in recording promotion materials and be able to adjust to changing material for ''on air'' as needed
• Must be able to assist with technical equipment for recording or airing ''live'' programming as needed by the Production Department
• Must be able to coordinate recording of material as well as assist with set up of technical equipment as required for production of ''live'' newscasts or pre-recorded material for the News Department
• Cooperation with staff both within KTXL and other broadcast operations

• Required to stand and sit for long periods of time
• Must be able to bend at the neck and waist
• Must be able to reach above shoulder level; lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
• Must use hands to do simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation

• Other various safety equipment as necessary for task
Work Environment
• Work performed primarily in Control Room and in an office environment
• Hours may include night and/or weekends
• May be exposed to the following conditions: heat/cold, confined spaces, electrical equipment
