Job Description - Accounting Manager
Thomas St John LLC offers financial services to a client base consisting of individuals and businesses within the music, entertainment and sport industries. The company is based across two main offices in London and Los Angeles with three core departments; Business Management, Accountancy and Tax.
We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager who will be responsible for all accounting processes and reporting. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, a sense of ownership, great communication skills, and a passion for delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
Position Responsibilities
- Performs the monthly financial close process to ensure timely an accurate reporting for clients.
- Oversees all accounts and ledgers ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Prepares and presents analytics and reports for clients.
- Prepares monthly financial reports for clients.
- Monitors and reports financial performance with regard to bank covenants.
- Prepare annual budget process.
- Assist in preparation of board and management meeting materials.
- Administer payroll.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls and procedures.
- Managing and reviewing the statutory accounts for a portfolio of key media clients; including US companies, partnerships, LLPs and sole trader accounts.
- Responsible for managing the statutory accounts compliance deadlines and providing timely information and liaising with the tax department to ensure tax deadlines are also met.
- Reporting directly to directors and becoming involved in client issues as they arise. This will involve both accounting and tax issues, but seeking advice from directors.
- Managing and reviewing monthly and quarterly client reporting, this will include liaising with the business management department and bookkeeping department to ensure client management accounts and ad hoc business management reports are delivered to clients.
- Running the client engagements by liaising with the management team and other departments with regard to the timely delivery of information.
- Actively involved in the firms financials via setting and monitoring budgets on client engagements and issuing client fee notes.
- Assisting the development of other staff members via training and feedback as part of the appraisal process.
Candidate Requirements
- A proactive approach to tasks; the ability to work instinctively on projects and plan ahead for the needs of the client.
- Organizational skills; scheduling and keeping deadlines not only personally but also for the department and client base.
- Problem solving; working instinctively whilst under pressure to complete ad hoc tasks on demand without detriment to fixed work load.
- Must be a qualified CPA
- Significant experience of managing a portfolio of SME clients for owner managed businesses, preferably in the music and entertainment industry.
- A detailed knowledge of US GAAP and experience of US tax compliance.
- Commercial awareness and the desire to understand the businesses within the client portfolio.
- Experience of managing a team and maintaining client relationships.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Extra Qualities [not a requirement]
- Proficient on Sage Line 50, SAPA, Excel, Quick Books
