Details: Theatrum Elysium, Los Angeles' premier teaching-theatre, is currently seeking a Production Stage Manager to join us for our spring production of Sarah Ruhl's Melancholy Play. Theatrum Elysium is a collection of artists dedicated to changing the paradigm of American theatre performance and training. A unique teaching theatre, Theatrum Elysium presents works that challenge, enlighten and illuminate, furthering the personal and artistic growth of Los Angeles and beyond. Our professional repertory company produces the most vital contemporary, classical, ensemble-driven and experimental works drawn from diverse theatrical traditions while The S & I Conservatory, our unique actor-training studio, moves far beyond the typical LA acting school, training our actors to be empowered, self-sustaining artists on a lifelong journey of artistic discovery.

The Production Stage Manager is responsible for the coordination of happenings onstage and backstage in preproduction, during rehearsals, and in performance. In addition s/he is the director¡¦s right hand and the voice of the director in his/her absence, assisting him/her in preproduction planning (along with the Artistic Director and other members of the administration), auditions and rehearsal, and is the liaison between the director and the design staff and, often, between the director and the cast. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Assist the Director with research and all phases of pre-production planning.
- Plan, prepare and distribute rehearsal schedules, cast list contact sheets, sign-in sheets and rehearsal reports, and maintain contact with the cast and crew in compliance with AEA Rules and Regulations.
- Assemble and maintain the Prompt Book, which is defined as the accurate playing text and stage business, together with such cue sheets, plots, daily records, etc. as are necessary for the actual technical and artistic operation of the production. Therefore, all script/technical changes must go through the Production Stage Manager.
- Call and run rehearsals, including taking blocking and technical notes; preparing the rehearsal areas; taping the floor (when necessary and possible) to indicate the scenery positions and playing areas and placing rehearsal chairs where furniture and props will be; prompting ; taking and giving line and staging notes.
- Organize and supervise set changes, props tracking and determine technical cues.
- During performance, the Production Stage Manager is totally responsible for the running of the show, including lighting, sound and other technical cues; set changes; calling places.
- Attend all production and design meetings, taking profuse and accurate notes and after, disseminate meeting notations to senior administrative staff.
- Responsible for the calling of all rehearsals, whether before or after opening
- Attend all rehearsals and feedback sessions, noting progress, changes, additions, deletions, etc. and circulate all notes to any and all production staff not in attendance
- During rehearsal(s) maintain on-book status in order to prompt actors, as necessary
- Record all blocking and movement and communicate changes to the production designers.
- Assume active responsibility for the form and discipline of rehearsal(s) and performance(s), and be the executive instrument on the technical running of each performance.
- Keep such records as are necessary to advise the Production Manager on matters of attendance, time, health benefits and/or other matters relating to the rights of Equity members.
- Schedule all necessary production rehearsal spaces/times and costume fittings.
- Post, or delegate the posting of, all call sheets for actors/arrivals and call individual actors in the event of tardiness
