Theatreworks USA, the nation's leading non-profit producer of Theatre for Young Audiences is seeking a Casting Director/ Assistant Artistic Director to begin as soon as possible.
This position reports directly to the Artistic Director providing support in all areas of artistic management. This position's primary function is as the Casting Director, overseeing the casting of up to 30 tours, workshops and readings throughout the season. This includes arranging casting sessions, hiring audition staff, and coordinating with creative teams. The Casting Director manages the casting staff, reviews all casting submissions and sets up all appointments. In scouting new talent, Casting Director attends talent showcases, readings, and equivalent productions whenever possible.
As the Assistant Artistic Director the primary responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining quality of 20+ touring productions each year, from casting through final dress; producing 6+ readings per year of shows in development; serving as liaison with playwrights, composers, directors & choreographers; maintaining and updating show files, including scripts and scores; coordinating meetings with creative teams; researching new literary properties for dramatic adaptations.
Candidate MUST have previous experience in theatrical casting, a working knowledge of breakdownexpress.com and Actor's Equity Association, and a valid driver's license.
Some directing experience is helpful although position does not include directing. Individual should be computer literate, a college grad and have 3-4 years' experience in professional theater, especially Musical Theatre. This is a full time position and includes some weekend and evening hours.
