The Independent Institute is currently seeking a Multimedia Specialist in our Publications Department.
Conveniently located near the Oakland Airport, The Independent Institute is an award-winning, academic, non-partisan, public policy research and educational organization. We publish books and a quarterly journal and produce forums about issues in the news. We distribute through print and electronic media.
The Multimedia Specialist works in the commission, planning, and production of multimedia content. Our ideal candidate will be a self-motivated with experience in audio-video, website, and email production and design.
Responsibilities:
Audio/Visual production - 30%
• Oversee and/or accomplish production of audio and video programs, including scripting, storyboarding, shooting, and postproduction
• Assist Publications Director and COO with planning for A/V infrastructure needs and the acquisition of appropriate equipment for in-house studio
• Provide postproduction and conversion to appropriate formats
• Work with and oversee independent contractors when needed
Audio/Visual administration - 15%
• Manage media processes, including the development and documentation of standardized processes and templates
• Manage asset storage and archiving, using appropriate file-handling protocols
Website management - 35%
• Provide detailed attention to high-quality, timely, consistent, and daily updating of the Institute's websites and YouTube site on business days: posting articles, press releases, A/V clips, and other content
Email campaigns - 20%
• Format and send outgoing mass emails, which include the weekly Lighthouse, promotions, fundraising appeals, invitations, and announcements
• Maintain up-to-date mail log
• Participate in implementing email management improvements
Qualifications
• Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills with keen attention to details
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines
• Proven experience with Adobe Creative Suites, especially Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, and Audition
• Knowledge of After Effects and familiarity with codecs a plus
• Solid knowledge of MS Office
• Basic knowledge of HTML and Wordpress
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Comfort with Mac environment
