Lucasfilm R&D Graduate Intern (Summer )
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
What projects do you have in mind and how would your summer intern support them?
R&D is responsible for developing tools and technologies covering a broad range of specialties within the field of computer graphics. Potential project areas include:
• Physical simulation: numerical methods, physical-based modeling.
• Computer vision applications: motion tracking, facial tracking, photo-modeling, and geometric reconstruction.
• Photorealistic rendering: shading (especially of hair and skin), lighting models, BRDF acquisition.
• Natural image matting
ResponsibilitiesJOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Apply current computer graphics research toward solving visual effects production challenges.
• Develop software tools for use in visual effects pipelines.
• Assist in the maintenance and support of software systems in use.
Basic Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities.
• Strong time management skills; Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings with a positive, pro-active attitude.
Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior internship experience working with a media production or commercial software company.
• Proficiency in C and Python programming.
• Experience using version control systems such as Perforce or git.
Required Education Enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last six (6) months, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program.
Preferred Education
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Enrolled in a graduate program
• Enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in Computer Science or closely related engineering or scientific discipline.
• 2 years of academic or industrial experience in the computer graphics field.
Company Overview DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The R&D Department develops computer graphics software systems and techniques that advance the state of the art in feature film visual effects. R&D Engineers work closely with ILM artists and production crews to identify, develop and support technology solutions, workflows and interfaces.
Additional Information:
• Unrestricted work authorization
• Available full time for 12 weeks from May/June through August/September
• Ability to provide own relocation, housing and transportation. Position is located in San Francisco, CA.
